Cookies & Other Tracking Technologies
- Cookies, which are small text files recorded in a User’s hard drive, are employed by thousands of sites to enhance users’ Web viewing the Site. Cookies allow sites and advertisers to “remember” users across pages of a site and across multiple visits to a site. Cookies in and of themselves do not personally identify Users, although they do identify a User’s computer. We use session and persistent cookies for remembering User preferences and current session information. Because of our use of cookies, we can deliver faster service, more consistent, updated results, and a more personalized site.
-
The types of cookies and similar technologies used by us and our partners in connection with the Site and Services can be classified into one of five categories, namely 'essential cookies', 'functionality cookies', 'analytics cookies', 'advertising cookies', and ' social media cookies'. Cookies do a lot of different tasks to ensure you enjoy your visit to our Site, for example, they are used to remember your preferences on sites you visit and to help you navigate between pages more efficiently. We have set out some further information about each category, and the purposes of the cookies we and third parties set in the following table.
Type of cookie What it does Cookies necessary for essential purposes These cookies are essential to provide you with the Site and Services and any services available through this and to use some of its features, such as access to secure areas. Without these cookies services you have asked for, like transactional pages and secure login accounts, would not be possible. Functionality Cookies Functionality cookies record information about choices you've made and allow us to tailor the Site and Services to you. These cookies mean that when you continue to use or come back to the Site, we can provide you with our Services as you have asked for them to be provided.
These cookies allow us to:
- Save your location preference if you have set your location on your homepage, if applicable, in order to receive localized content specific to your location; and
- Remember settings you have applied.
Analytics Cookies We use analytics cookies to analyze how the Site and Services are accessed, used, or is performing in order to provide you with a better user experience, to allow our employer customers to see how you interact with their content on the Site and through use of our Services, and to maintain, operate and continually improve the Site and Services.
We also use Google Analytics, which is a web analytics tool that helps us understand how Users engage with the Site and Services. Like many services, Google Analytics uses first-party cookies to track user interactions, as in our case, where they are used to collect information about how Users use our Site and Services. This information is used to compile reports and to help us improve our Site and Services. The reports disclose website trends without identifying individual visitors. For more information on Google Analytics, see here. You can opt out of Google Analytics without affecting how you visit our site – for more information on opting out of being tracked by Google Analytics across all websites you use, visit this Google page: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Analytics cookies allow us to:
- Better understand our Site visitors and use of the Services so that we can improve how we present our content;
- Test different design ideas for particular pages, such as our homepage;
- Collect information about Site visitors such as where they are located and what browsers they are using;
- Determine the number of unique users of the Site;
- Improve the Site by measuring any errors that occur; and
- Conduct research and diagnostics to improve product offerings.
Advertising and Targeting Cookies We allow third party companies, including advertising companies, to place cookies on our Site.
These cookies enable such companies to track your activity across various sites where they display ads and record your activities so they can show ads that they consider relevant to you as you browse the Internet.
Cookies also allow us and third parties to know whether you have seen an ad or a type of ad, and how long it has been since you've last seen it. This information is used for frequency capping purposes, to help tailor the ads you see, and to measure the effectiveness of ads.Social Media Cookies On some pages of our Site, third parties that provide applications through our Site will set their own cookies in order to track the success of their applications or customize applications for you. Because of how cookies work, we cannot access these cookies, nor can the third parties access the data in cookies used by us. Some pages of our Site will also contain embedded content, such as video content from YouTube, and these sites will set their own cookies.
These cookies are used when you share an article using a social media sharing button on our Site (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, or Google Plus) as the social network that has created the button will record that you have done this. If you are logged in to your account with the third party, the third party will be able to link information about you with your actions via cookies. - You can adjust and block cookies using your browser settings. Find out how to manage cookies on these popular browsers:
- Google Chrome
- Microsoft Edge
- Mozilla Firefox
- Microsoft Internet Explorer
- Opera
- Apple Safari
- To find information relating to other browsers, visit the browser developer's website.
- To opt out of being tracked by Google Analytics across all websites, visit https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- As you browse the Site, online ad networks we work with may place anonymous cookies on your computer, and use similar technologies, in order to understand your interests based on your (anonymous) online activities, and to tailor more relevant ads to you. If you do not wish to receive such tailored advertising, you may use the opt-out tool of the Network Advertising Initiative found here: https://www.networkadvertising.org/choices, or the opt-out tool of the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA) found here: https://www.aboutads.info/choices. Opting out of tailored advertising will not prevent you from seeing ads altogether, and we cannot guarantee that these opt-out tools will always be effective; the opt-out tools are simply designed to ensure your ads will not be delivered through targeting methods from these online ad networks. We and our online ad networks provide opt-out mechanisms through the tools linked above and do not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals.
- We may use spot light ads, cookies, JavaScript, web beacons, GIF and/or pixel tags which are site instrumentation tools that help us to determine, for instance, whether a page has been viewed or not and, if so, how many times. When you ask us to send you information on a promotion or a newsletter, we may use web beacons to establish how many of the emails are actually opened. In general, any electronic image viewed as part of a web page, including an ad banner, can act as a web beacon. We may use web beacons to collect web usage analytics.
- When you visit the Site, the server housing the pages automatically generates a “session log.” We use session logs to help us determine how people travel through the Site. In this way, we can structure our pages so that the information most frequently visited is easier to find. By tracking page visits, we can also determine if the information we’re providing is being used.
- Users may be directed to the Site or Services via banner ads or site links. Ads or Site links that are placed by the Site use cookies or web beacons to deliver metrics on the effectiveness of the ads or links. They do not collect Personal Information from the User.

Your California Rights
- A California resident who has provided personal information to a business with whom he/she has established a business relationship for personal, family, or household purposes (“California customer”) is entitled to request information about whether the business has disclosed personal information to any third parties for the third parties’ direct marketing purposes. In general, if the business has made such a disclosure of personal information, upon receipt of a request by a California customer, the business is required to provide a list of all third parties to whom personal information was disclosed in the preceding calendar year, as well as a list of the categories of personal information that were disclosed.
- However, under the law, a business is not required to provide the above-described lists if the business adopts and discloses to the public (in its privacy policy) a policy of not disclosing customer’s personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes unless the customer first affirmatively agrees to the disclosure, as long as the business maintains and discloses this policy. Rather, the business may comply with the law by notifying the customer of his or her right to prevent disclosure of personal information and providing a cost free means to exercise that right.
- As stated above, we do not share Personal Information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes unless you first affirmatively agree to such disclosure. If you do ask us to share your Personal Information with a third party for its direct marketing purposes, we will only share such information in connection with that specific promotion, as we do not share information with any third party on a continual basis. To prevent disclosure of your Personal Information for use in direct marketing by a third party, opt-out of such use as specified in our “Opt-In/Opt-Out Policy”. Please note that whenever you opt-in to receive future communications from a third party, your information will be subject to the third party’s privacy policy. If you later decide that you do not want that third party to use your information, you will need to contact the third party directly, as we have no control over how third parties use information. You should always review the privacy policy of any party that collects your information to determine how that entity will handle your information.
- California customers may request further information about our compliance with this law by emailing legal@careerarc.com. Please note that we are only required to respond to one request per customer each year, and we are not required to respond to requests made by means other than through this email address.
