The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a senior executive responsible for overseeing the strategic alignment of technology with WWP's strategic goals. The CIO will lead the organization's information technology (IT) department, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of IT services and systems to support company operations and objectives. The CIO collaborates closely with other C-suite executives and department heads to identify opportunities for leveraging technology to enhance business processes, drive innovation, and maximize technology investments. The CIO also manages IT budgets, cybersecurity initiatives, vendor relationships, and IT staff development.


 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive IT strategy aligned with organizational goals. Lead the optimization of the CRM platform, self-service data & analytics capabilities, and advancing the underlying infrastructure to support digital systems.

  • Partner with leadership and collaborate across departments to drive digital transformation, fostering data-driven decision making through data strategy and governance.

  • Oversee IT staff, projects, and budget with a focus on efficiency, effectiveness, and continuous improvement. 

  • Work strategically and diligently to protect critical WWP data assets related to donor and warrior information that exists within WWP and supplier systems.

  • Participate and provide updates on strategic IT initiatives and challenges to the Board of Directors on a quarterly cadence—with strong collaboration of the C- Suite leaders.

  • Work persistently with a charitable mindset to leverage WWP brand and partners to deliver solutions in the most efficient and effective manner possible to maximize ROI of our donor dollars.

  • Work closely with the WWP audit and compliance teams to perform security audits and penetration tests for critical 3rd party suppliers and report outcomes, remediation efforts, and status to the Board of Directors and Audit, Risk and Compliance committee.

  • Proactively evaluate security and risk management, addressing potential vulnerabilities in both cloud and productivity environments.

  • Lead large-scale technology implementations, ensuring successful execution from both a technical and an organizational adoption standpoint. Drive user readiness and change management processes to maximize technology utilization and ROI.

  • Build and manage a data intensive environment with the understanding of what data sets, dashboards, and tools are appropriate for different areas and levels of the organization.

  • Develop  a compelling IT vision that aligns with and propels WWP's growth strategy. Craft comprehensive roadmaps that bridge the gap between technology and business initiatives for successful implementation.

  • Set ambitious goals and drive measurable improvements in IT performance. Make data-driven decisions, considering potential risks and long-term impact, while acting with integrity and transparency to prioritize WWP's best interests.

  • Navigate effectively through ambiguity and complex situations with clear communication and adaptability. Deliver projects on time and within budget, fostering a results-oriented IT culture.

  • Build and cultivate a high-performing IT team through talent acquisition, effective delegation, and performance management.

  • Drive thought leadership and stay abreast of the latest tools, systems, and technologies across the industry.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Proven ability to leverage technology for insights, efficiencies, and innovation.

  • Strong working knowledge with modern CRM, marketing automation, and ERP systems.

  • Demonstrated understanding of cybersecurity practices and a commitment to ensuring the security of the organization's data and systems.

  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience within a fundraising environment leveraging Salesforce and similar applications, data platforms, integration tools and applications/systems related to fundraising events and activities.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and to foster effective collaboration.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills. Ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and build effective relationships.

  • Ability to balance ambition with practicality, ensuring realistic and achievable goals with successful implementation plans.

  • Proven management skills. Demonstrated success leading, coaching, and mentoring teams.

  • Strong understanding of current and emerging technologies, IT best practices, and industry trends.

  • Excellent presentation skills. Confident communicator, with demonstrated ability to present effectively to large audiences, small groups, and individuals including executives, government officials, and other organizational leaders.

  • High energy level and demonstrated initiative.

EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • Fifteen years in a senior IT role.

  • Ten years of experience in IT management, with a track record of success in strategic planning, execution, and IT leadership.

  • Ten years of demonstrated leadership and people management experience and skills, with a track record of successfully leading and developing high-performing teams.

Preferences

  • Five years of experience working within the non-profit sector.

  • Proficiency in modern business applications including but not limited to Salesforce CRM, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Workday, Microsoft Great Plains, and Microsoft Office 365.

EDUCATION

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, business administration, or related field.

Preferences

  • Master's degree in business administration, information systems, or related field.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURE

Requirements

  • Valid state-issued driver's license.

Preferences

  • Chief Information Technology Professional (CITP).

  • IT Information Library Foundations Certification (ITIL).

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • General office environment; temperature controlled.

  • Up to 50% travel.
