POSITION: Dentist
SCHEDULE: 10 Hours Per Week
FACILITY: Western Virginia Regional Jail
LOCATION: Salem, VA

POSITION SUMMARY
The Dentist is responsible and accountable for supervising the dental staff and managing the dental activity as well as for providing oral health care to patients. Utilizes electronic medical record system as applicable throughout the scope of duties and responsibilities.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provides dental care inclusive of extractions as deemed necessary to all inmates following Wexford Health and facility policies and guidance.
• Performs and interprets radiographic examinations as indicated.
• Supervises staff in the completion of appropriate records accurately and all procedures associated with the provision of dental care.
• Arranges proper referrals for procedures that cannot be performed on-site at facility following Wexford Health and facility guidance for referral.
• Serves as clinical authority on all matters related to the delivery of dental services, and provides direction, guidance, and oversight to the dental staff and programs.
• Examines patients and documents findings in the inmate patient's medical record utilizing the standard forms within the EMR, utilizing applicable dental classification systems (i.e., APHA).
• Develops and updates department policies and procedures.
• Supplies data for clinical reports as requested.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements list the minimum to qualify. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
LICENSING: Current valid Virginia Dental license and current DEA license
CERTIFICATION: Current CPR Certification
EDUCATION: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DDM) degree
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 1 year practicing dentistry; Correctional experience preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.
