Part Time – Lake Elsinore
Job Summary
Direct and provide outpatient care to clinic patients and ensure quality assurance including examination of patient's eyes, sight testing, diagnoses of visual disorders and diseases, determining course of treatment, providing and supervising appropriate treatment for such diseases, including glaucoma and cataract and diabetes. Prescribe spectacles or contact lenses when needed. Refer patients to medical practitioners when necessary.
Essential Job Functions
- Participate in quality assurance, quality improvement and utilization review
- Examine the eyes of patients of all ages to detect signs of injury, disease, abnormality or vision defects
- Read retinal scans
- Be aware of signs and symptoms of general health conditions (e.g. diabetes)
- Examine eyes and fit spectacles or contact lenses
- Offer advice and reassurance about vision-related matters, and in choosing frames and lenses
- Liaison with other medical practitioners and sometimes sharing the care of patients with chronic ophthalmic conditions
- Prescribe medicines for people with eye conditions
- Participate in the development of clinic protocols and procedures to ensure quality eye care
- Participate in utilization and peer review programs which evaluates the quality of the optometry staff and services being performed at the clinics
- Provide supervision and direction to staff as applicable
- A Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) Degree from an accredited optometry school
- Current Optometric License from the state of California
- Certification by the State of California for the treatment of ocular disease and glaucoma
- CPR Certification (including BLS Child, Infant, Adult with one-time hands-on skills training)
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Per diem (on-call) position available in Vista, CA
Pay: $68-$73/hour DOE
