Description
Lead carpenter role, overseeing all aspects of the Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology Operations, Productions, and Technology (OPT) team, including rigging, scenery, staging and operation. Assist with setup, operation and tear down of all Bass School Production Team ran events. Responsible for all venues under the Production Team's purview including the Theatre, Lecture/Events Hall, Performance Hall and all future venues. Ensure the proper and safe operation of all technical equipment. Provide basic technical support in the areas of lighting, sound, video, special effects as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in fine art or a related field and one (1) year of experience as a technical theater professional or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
BA/BFA degree and three years of relevant experience to demonstrate a working knowledge of stage management, stage carpentry, theatrical rigging, lighting, and audio practices.
OR
MA/MFA degree and relevant experience to demonstrate a working knowledge of stage management, stage carpentry, theatrical rigging, lighting, and audio.
Preferred candidate should have:
- Strong stage carpentry/rigging skills
- Working knowledge of lighting, sound and video equipment
- Welding skills
- Experience using Vectorworks
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- As Lead Carpenter, assist production team with project management, including complex scheduling of design, build, production, and strike protocols.
- Verify that all projects are built in accordance with drawings and proactively consults with the Productions staff in case of any questions or in making decisions regarding building/rebuilding set pieces.
- As Shop Foreman, maintain tools and inventory of construction/rigging hardware.
- Assist with sound, lighting and video as needed for all Bass School event spaces, theatre, Lecture/Events Hall, Performance Hall, and all future venues that fall under the Bass School.
- Review and advise on all technical riders of contracts for prospective performers, entertainers, and groups.
- Coordinate with Productions staff for guest performers, including all requirements ensuring complete facilities preparation and compliance with university policies.
- Provide direct support for faculty and students in mounting student productions, as assigned.
- Assist in maintenance of lighting, sound and video equipment as needed.
