Position Description

The Department of Neuroscience in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences in collaboration with the Department of Bioengineering in the School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas seeks to fill a position at the rank of Professor within the field of sleep neuroscience. Sleep is a fundamental component of proper neuronal function and optimal brain health. Lack of proper sleep is a major contributing factor to numerous disease states. The underlying physiology and pathology of sleep circuitry is thus relevant to the work of many current researchers at UT Dallas who focus on neuroscience, including ongoing work on fear/anxiety, affective behavioral disorders, pain, migraine, cognition, executive functions, and optimal brain development/aging. Additionally, the development and use of novel devices to track and optimize sleep is a rapidly growing area that is both critical for research into the impact of sleep on neuronal function and for translation of findings into products to benefit human health. As a result, opportunities exist for the creation of new devices that can track and improve sleep in humans, an area of research that is broadly applicable within the research and expertise of the Bioengineering department. Applicants whose research expertise and interests span these areas are strongly encouraged to apply, particularly academic researchers with an established history in this field with an international reputation and with an interest in translation/commercialization of fundamental research into products to improve human health.

The appointment commences for the fall 2025 semester.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience: A PhDin Neuroscience, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related fields and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service, or equivalent degree in a related discipline is required prior to employment. Candidates should also show evidence of an innovative and productive research program with clear potential for funding. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

UTD and the Department of Neuroscience

Faculty in Neuroscience are active participants in several research centers including the Center for Advanced Pain Studies, Texas Biomedical Device Center, Center for BrainHealth, Center for Vital Longevity, and Callier Center for Communication Disorders. Neuroscience faculty also have vibrant collaborations with the UTD Program in Bioengineering and the UT Southwestern Medical Center. Preferred Education and Experience

Ph.D. in Neuroscience or a related field, Postdoctoral Fellowship training, prior experience as an academic researcher at the Assistant, Associate, and full Professor levels, International Reputation in the field of sleep research, and evidence of a dynamic and productive research program with clear potential for funding.

Engage in service within the academic unit, the university, and the profession as appropriate based on teaching and research constraints;
Teach three (3) classes each academic year .
