Employment Immigration Specialist II:
Reporting to the Director of Employment & Compensation in the Office of Human Resources, this position will assist in overseeing the university's employment immigration program. The Immigration Specialist is responsible for filing employment immigration petitions and works with outside council on permanent residency requests. This role will also assist with onboarding and transitional services for international TA/RA/GA (F-1's) employees and the J-1 check-in process. This is a lead position and may supervise the work of other staff.

Employment Immigration Specialist II position Information:

  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • Salary Grade: 13
  • Salary Range: up to $70,000 depending on experience

Employment Immigration Specialist I:
Reporting to the Director of Employment & Compensation in the Office of Human Resources, this position will assist in overseeing the university's employment immigration program. The Immigration Specialist is responsible for filing employment immigration petitions and works with outside council on permanent residency requests. This role will also assist with onboarding and transitional services for international TA/RA/GA (F-1's) employees and J-1 check-in process.
Employment Immigration Specialist I position Information:
  • FLSA Status: Non-exempt
  • Salary Grade: 12
  • Salary Range: up to $60,000 depending on experience

Successful candidates will have excellent written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work in a team and independently. Forward-thinking and creative, this candidate will work to develop and enhance the current processes with the goal of creating a welcoming and stress-free for foreign nationals. Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work in fast-paced environment.

To be considered for this role, applicants must have at least 4 to 5 years of related experience as outlined in the minimum qualifications section, including at least 2 to 3 years immigration experience.

Minimum Education and Experience

HR Specialist II:
Bachelor's Degree and five (5) years general human resources experience or administrative experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

HR Specialist I:
Bachelor's degree and four (4) years  general human resources experience or administrative experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.



Preferred Education and Experience

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Five (5) years employment Immigration experience in higher education or as a paralegal.
  • Experience with immigration software.
  • Experience using a ticketing system.
  • Experience with software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point are required.
  • One (1) or more years working in Human Resources field.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM certification


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Employment Immigration Specialist II (HR Specialist II)
  • Administers all aspects of immigration-related employment-based applications (H-1B, J-1, and permanent residency), ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Assists with the development, integration, and implementation of policies regarding hiring practices for foreign nationals.
  • Will recommend, develop, and present employment immigration content for training purposes, workshops and materials aimed at communicating the university immigration processes.
  • Present regular immigration updates within various online and on-site forums.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation relating to visas, petitions and any other information relating to employment-based immigration.
  • Collaborates with the International Student Center to implement transition programs (student to staff).
  • Assists with RA/TA/GA onboarding program.
  • Develop and monitor caseload system and maintain contact list and communication with foreign nationals.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable employment immigration rules and regulations, remaining abreast of changing employment immigration regulations and best practices.
  • Evaluate needs, changes in technology and regulations, and engage in business process adjustments to maintain service levels.
  • Assist in updating the employment immigration website as needed.
  • Be available to campus stakeholders as an employment immigration resource.
  • May lead the work of other immigration specialists on the team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service to all faculty, staff, and outside stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of faculty and staff.
  • Knowledge of immigration and DOL regulations, hiring processes, recruitment and documents relating to employment of foreign nationals.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training to foreign nationals and hiring managers.
  • Ability to present immigration information to campus stakeholders.


Additional Information

Remote Work Notice
A hybrid remote work schedule is available with manager approval. Employees must be located within the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex area and have the ability to be on campus for work activities as scheduled and/or with 24-hour notice. Completion and approval of a UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required upon employment, and use of personal internet, and other standard equipment may be required. Remote work arrangements are subject to regular review and re-approval and may be canceled at any time.
