Position Description

The Department of Biological Sciences in the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) seeks to recruit three (3) full-time equivalent (9-month appointment) non-tenure system faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction to teach undergraduate biology courses, including introductory biology lab and/or anatomy and physiology, among other offerings. The Department of Biological Sciences is a vibrant community of researchers and educators that places high value on the effective training of students. An ideal candidate is an educator dedicated to the success of all students and trainees in classrooms and laboratories. Successful candidates will find a highly engaging and collaborative intellectual environment at The University of Texas at Dallas. Courses may be taught in multiple sections by large groups of faculty and teaching assistants, so excellent team-working and communication skills are essential. The candidate should aid the teaching team in preparing and test-running materials and modules needed for the lab sessions, and should aid in building curriculum and course content geared towards an active learning environment. We are especially interested in candidates who have flexibility to teach night and/or weekend classes, and/or are interested in developing course-based research experiences for our undergraduate students. The appointment commences for the spring 2025 semester.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: A master's degree in a relevant discipline in the biological sciences is required prior to employment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences. Preferred Education and Experience: A PhD in a relevant discipline in the biological sciences is preferred along with experience as a teaching assistant or instructor in college-level laboratory and/or lecture classes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence.
Prepare and teach undergraduate and/or graduate classes.
Contribute assessment information and data as requested.
Engage in service within the academic unit, the university, and the profession as appropriate based on teaching and research constraints.
Teach eight (8) classes each academic year.
