Description

The Emily Couric Cancer Center Clinic is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our multidisciplinary team. The RN will oversee and participate in the delivery of high–quality patient care, ensuring adherence to best practices and clinical protocols. This role requires strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement and patient satisfaction.

Responsible for providing and coordinating interdisciplinary patient care utilizing the nursing process.

This job description integrates the ANA 2015 Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, Third Edition and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (ANA, 2015), and the UVA Nursing Professional Practice Model.

ANA Scope and Standards of Practice definition of nursing:

Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities and populations.

  • Responsibilities:

    Patient Care:

    Oversee and participate in the delivery of patient care, ensuring adherence to best practices and clinical protocols.
    Coordinate patient care activities, including assessments, treatments, and follow–ups.
    Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care in accordance with organizational policies.
    Address patient and family concerns promptly and professionally, ensuring a high level of patient satisfaction.
    Quality and Safety:

    Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement within the clinic.
    Monitor and evaluate clinical practices, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
    Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational policies and procedures.
    Participate in quality improvement initiatives and data collection efforts.
    Collaboration and Communication:

    Foster effective communication and collaboration among the multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, and support staff.
    Facilitate regular team meetings and huddles to discuss patient care, staffing, and other operational matters.
    Serve as a liaison between the clinic and other departments within the cancer center and the broader healthcare organization.
    Ensure clear and open communication with patients and their families, providing education and support as needed.
    Professional Development:

    Stay current with advances in oncology nursing and evidence–based practices.
    Participate in ongoing education and professional development opportunities.
    Encourage and support staff participation in continuing education and professional development activities.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $36.00 – $36.00 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of accredited nursing program, Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.
Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, and frequently bending/stooping/traveling, Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull > 100lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, vibrations, humidity, cold, heat, noise, outdoor climate, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
