Patient Safety Companions provide professional and courteous visual observation to patients who cannot be left unattended at UVA Medical Center.

Paid training includes:
• Orientation, Onboarding, and Benefits
• Safety and Security Training ? threat assessment, active bystander, de–escalation, blood and body fluid hazards, biological hazards, etc.
• Workplace Readiness Training ? customer service, dealing with upset customers, time management, teamwork, problem–solving, conflict resolution, professional etiquette, personal well–being, etc.
• Basic Computer Skills Training ? basic computer and mobile device usage, navigating Workday for work–related functions, etc.
• Program participants will receive the following certifications: American Red Cross CPR/First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogens, Department of Labor OSHA 10 General Industry (Healthcare), and numerous LinkedIn and Coursera certificates.
• English as a Second Language (ESL) participants will receive an additional 60 hours of English language training to help prepare them for the HOOS Caring Training Program and the Patient Companion position.

Position Compensation Range: $15.00 – $19.59 Hourly

ESL training for English as a Second Language learners will begin on Monday, September 30, 2024, and go through Friday, October 11, 2024. Training will take place from 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday.

Skills training for all program participants, including ESL learners and non–ESL learners, will take place from Monday, October 14, 2024, to Friday, October 25, 2024. Class will be held 8:00am to 4:30pm from Monday through Friday.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods and frequently bending/stooping/traveling. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. May be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
