Department of Anesthesiology | The University of Iowa – Iowa City, IA 

The University of Iowa Department of Anesthesia is seeking qualified anesthesiologists with interest and expertise in a variety of clinical areas to join our team. The Department of Anesthesia is seeking faculty members for appointment on the Clinical or Tenure Track at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank, depending on qualification for the following specialties:

  • Regional Anesthesiology
  • Critical Care Medicine
  • Pediatric & Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology
  • General Anesthesiology
  • Obstetrical Anesthesiology

Responsibilities Include:

The Department of Anesthesia at the University of Iowa is recognized for its leadership in anesthesia education, research, and clinical care. With a commitment to excellence, the department trains future anesthesiologists, conducts pioneering research, and delivers compassionate anesthesia services across a broad spectrum of surgical specialties.

  • Participating in team-based anesthesia care and personally providing anesthesia care
  • Serving as a member of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating for effective patient outcomes
  • Active participation in the academic activities of the Department and The Carver College of Medicine
  • Supervising students, residents, fellows, SRNA's and non-anesthesia rotators
  • Providing developmental feedback to those under supervision, verbally and in writing.
  • Preparing educational materials, leading and/or attending academic lectures and professional development events.
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting an inclusive team-based work environment.
  • Research activities are encouraged, though participation is not required for continued employment or promotion.

Requirements:

  • Candidates of all experience levels are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants must have a medical school degree (or equivalent degree), show successful completion of an approved residency program in anesthesiology & fellowship (if applicable).
  • The selected candidate for the position must be eligible to obtain or already hold an active Iowa medical license.
  • Candidates must be board-certified in Anesthesiology (or non-US Board equivalent) or be in the certification process (pending completion of residency or fellowship). On occasion, individuals trained outside of the United States who are certified by an equivalent national certification group may be considered.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
  • For appointment in Critical Care Medicine, candidates must have fellowship training in the area of anesthesia critical care

Desirable Qualifications:

Fellowship training or equivalent clinical experience in any of the subspecialty areas.

  • The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience working effectively in an inclusive environment and be comfortable with team-based anesthesia care.
  • Interest in teaching and/or basic or clinical research.
