Job Summary

 

This position works as a journey-level therapist and is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and implementing Occupational Therapy services to patients as assigned by the Occupational Therapy supervisor. Typically, incumbents have experienced a variety of clinical settings. They have successfully demonstrated experience related to the ability to function with less direction. They plan, evaluate, and implement Occupational Therapy programs for patients with complex problems. They have demonstrated independent judgment related to documentation and patient-related treatment issues. Incumbents are expected to act as resource persons and provide clinical direction to entry-level Occupational Therapists. They assist in the orientation of staff and are expected to participate in training programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • California Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT)
  • Must possess a minimum of a Baccalaureate degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Must have 2 or more years of clinical experience in the field of Occupational Therapy
  • Must possess and maintain current licensure as an Occupational Therapist by the California Board of Occupational Therapy
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis CPR Certification
  • Must supply all appropriate information to maintain Hospital credentialing on time
  • Professional competency in occupational therapy evaluation techniques, such as range of motion testing, muscle testing, cognitive/ perceptual testing, activities of daily living evaluation, sensory testing, use of standardized testing of upper extremity function
  • Professional competency in occupational therapy treatment modalities including activities of daily living and transfer training, strengthening, coordination, balance, range of motion, perceptual/cognitive skills training, wheelchair prescription, fabrication of splints, and adapted devices
  • Ability to communicate ideas and relate well with staff and patients to work as a team member
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist other staff members with their caseloads
  • Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with patients and their families
  • Ability to train family in follow-through for home therapy programs; home visiting as necessary
  • Ability to communicate clearly on a professional basis with physicians and work cooperatively with a variety of healthcare professionals
  • Knowledge of requirements in processing for third-party payors
  • Knowledge of appropriate information required for patient and supply record keeping and ability to appropriately organize written material
  • Ability to clearly document progress notes, discharge plans, and other written reports as requested
  • Ability to effectively plan and manage workload as well as coordinate scheduling of patients in assigned areas of responsibility
  • Ability to verbally communicate pertinent information and knowledge of the profession for training and educating other hospital service personnel
  • Must possess basic computer skills

 

Key Responsibilities

  • 90% - As a journey level therapist, provides Occupational Therapy services to complex, complicated patients of all ages in a variety of clinical settings. 
  • 5% - Educational Activities 
  • 5% - Miscellaneous assignments as required.

  • Must possess the physical strength to assist with patient mobility 
  • Must possess sufficient mobility to traverse the distances required to serve patients throughout the institution
