The UMC Cancer Center has a Clinic and Infusion Center that provide care to adult and pediatric patients with non-cancerous, hematology and/or oncology conditions.
Chemotherapy administration and practices are followed using ONS guidelines and institutional policies and procedures. Protocol participation is also available. Therapies include but are not limited to: chemotherapy via ambulatory infusion pump, intravenous, intrathecal, IM or SQ route, therapeutic phlebotomy, administration of blood and blood products, anti-emetic therapy, IV immunotherapy and IV hydration.
Patient chemotherapy education is provided by an RN regarding the disease process, chemotherapy drugs, side effects, procedures, protocols, and complications resulting from disease and treatment. Videos, handouts and one-on-one teaching methods are utilized.
Job Summary:

Professional nurse who assesses, delegates, and reviews nursing care and functions in accordance with established philosophy, providing patient care for a group of patients per scope of practice. Relates effectively with other shifts/departments for optimal continuity of care. chemotherapy

Qualifications

-Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
-Valid Texas RN License/Eligible Compact License
-Must maintain a current BLS & certification from American Heart Association
-BSN required or must be obtained within 3 years of hire
-Chemotherapy certification preferred or must be obtained within 90 days of
hire
-Experienced RN: Minimum 1 year acute care.
