Summary of Job Duties: This opportunity can be filled in Little Rock or Fayetteville.

The Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations develops and implements a strategic fundraising plan to identify, cultivate and solicit foundations for philanthropic support of the mission of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The senior director maintains an active number of proposals to increase engagement across UAMS constituencies with foundations of all types and corporations of all sizes. The incumbent also provides collaboration, support and strategic direction to fundraising colleagues when working with foundations or corporates for which they serve on a fundraising team.

The senior director will approach prospects for major gifts at and above $25,000, working closely with the appropriate deans, faculty, administration and advancement colleagues. This position will primarily have responsibilities related to foundations that solicit proposals via a Request for Proposal (RFP) process and larger corporate entities interested in holistic engagement (combination of philanthropy, research, sponsored projects and/or recruiting). The senior director may also support a portfolio of individual donors and prospects, especially those related to or in decision-making roles with corporations or foundations with which UAMS is in a philanthropic relationship.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field plus seven (7) years of fundraising, corporate, foundation or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field plus five (5) years of demonstrated experience in raising major gifts in an educational, research or health care setting to include supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated success in corporate business development, sales or account management.

  • CFRE - Certification.

  • Experience utilizing: Foundation Directory Online.

Preferred Special knowledge, abilities and skills:

  • Demonstrated success in building meaningful and long-term relationships with donors and strategic partners.

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of philanthropic and fundraising best practices.

  • A deep understanding of research in academic settings. Demonstrated experience, sensitivity, and diplomacy in foundation-related fundraising.

  • Experience with fundraising databases and knowledge of prospecting tools and reports within fundraising systems or other prospective donor relations systems.

  • Excellent judgment, interpersonal, and communication skills to articulate a compelling case for major philanthropic support of programs, present institutional objectives persuasively, and translate complex concepts into compelling fundraising proposals.

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively to craft and implement fundraising plans.

  • Demonstrated success in taking initiative, meeting deadlines, adapting to changing priorities, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate opportunities, develop effective plans and strategies, assess feasibility, and evaluate results.

  • Ability to function effectively in a complex organizational environment demanding high energy, discretion, patience, enthusiasm, and humor.

  • Ability to coordinate activities with other offices on campus who are also involved in working with Foundations (notably ORSP).


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and research foundations using internal and external databases.

  • Identify and research companies using databases, peer-to-peer volunteer networks and news sources.

  • Lead creation of letters of intent, proposals and impact reports to foundations.

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of philanthropic grant- and gift-making partners with UAMS.

  • Develop holistic partnerships with foundations and corporations that maximize the support of UAMS and its priorities.

  • Meet or exceed annual metrics for LOIs, proposals and gift commitments.

  • Manage site visits and concierge-level stewardship for prospect and donor entities.

  • Meet or exceed annual metrics for activities (visits, calls, meetings, etc.), including engagement with new prospects for philanthropic partnership and investment with UAMS.

  • Work in conjunction with clinicians, leadership and business units across campus to manage philanthropic grant processes and policies.

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the institution, mission, programs and resources and the philanthropic needs within each.

  • Work with UAMS colleagues across campus to ensure foundation funders have a strong working knowledge of UAMS' strengths and areas of expertise.

  • Proactively seek professional development and industry best practices to ensure the highest level of learning, effectiveness and return on efforts.

  • Work and liaise with the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) to ensure best service and collaboration to internal and external partners.

  • Develop a program for foundation leadership visits to campus and/or virtually, as well as visits by UAMS leadership and faculty with foundation boards, leaders, and program staff, around areas of strategic strengths and priorities.

  • Exhibit exemplary professionalism and both written and oral communication skills.

  • Develop and share internally an annual calendar of foundation-related deadlines and opportunities.

  • Develop and utilize a process, including submission forms, instructions and review procedures, for ensuring best-matched proposals to new and existing funders from all relevant constituencies within UAMS.

  • Other duties as assigned.
