Summary of Job Duties: Exciting opportunity in the lab of Dr. Amanda Stolarz for a Research Assistant to assist the Principal Investigator in the implementation and evaluation of biomedical research. This position is available to develop novel therapeutics for vascular and lymphatic-related diseases and mitigation of side effects of cancer therapy. He/she will be responsible for routine molecular studies (like RNA and protein isolation, gene and protein expression studies, cell sorting, microscopy, flow cytometry, cell isolation), routine cell/tissue culture and adenoviral transfections, and vascular functional studies. He/she will also assist in surgical procedures and be responsible for post-surgical care of rodents.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences or related field with a minimum of 3 years of related professional lab research experience.
  • Must have experience in small animal handing and/or molecular biology techniques

Preferred Qualification:

  • Three (3) years experience in animal study, cell culture, and/or molecular biology studies (including adenoviral transfections, RTPCR, Western Blot, etc)


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Performing inventories of the laboratory and determining supplies that need to be purchased, perform general laboratory maintenance tasks such as cleaning of glassware, eye washer checks and calibration of equipment, and assist with training students in the laboratory setting.
  • Assisting in surgery, pre-and post-surgical care of animals, harvesting tissue, culturing cells/tissue.
  • Performing molecular biology assays 
  • Collecting, processing, and analyzing of data from experiments performed on cultured cells
  • General maintenance of the laboratories; glass washing, preparation of solutions and media; filing MSD sheets
  • Keeping records of chemicals and supplies and working with the PI to order necessary supplies
  • Helping the PI to maintain the laboratory protocols and certifications
