Summary of Job Duties: The Department of Laboratory Sciences in the College of Health Professions at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) seeks applicants for a full-time, 12-month faculty position, located in Little Rock, Arkansas. We are searching for a team-oriented faculty member to join the successful, dynamic and student-oriented medical laboratory sciences program. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications. Tenure or non-tenure track is available, depending on academic qualifications. Position reports to the medical laboratory sciences program director.

The program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. The program offers a full- or part-time day program with one cohort of up to 30 students beginning each fall semester. The full-time track requires 17 months to complete. The part-time track allows students a maximum of five semesters to complete the program. The program also offers an MLT-to-MLS distance track that is designed for medical laboratory technicians (MLTs). Upon completion of the full-time, part-time, or MLT-to-MLS track, a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences is awarded.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in science, education, health-related field, management or equivalent from an accredited institution.  A Bachelor's degree is acceptable for appointment as instructor
  • Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience performing high-complexity testing as a generalist with experience in all areas of the lab. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  •  Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to identify and solve problems
  • Ability to travel frequently to clinical sites and recruitment events to meet with potential students and current MLS students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in science, education, or health-related field from an accredited institution
  • Teaching experience (online, classroom, and/or clinical)
  • Experience in managing teams or programs 
     


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development and general effectiveness of clinical experiences for medical laboratory sciences students
  • Designs and teaches academic courses in area(s) of content expertise.  This position will serve as a backup didactic faculty for multiple areas for our on-campus program
  • Serves as a key faculty providing support for the online program in support to the program and assistant program directors
  • Serves as recruiting liaison for the College of Health Professions recruitment efforts with an emphasis on on-campus recruiting and assisting with online recruitment on an as needed basis.
  • Participates in research and other scholarly activities appropriate to faculty rank and track
  • Engages in service activities, consistent with university and college expectations for core faculty
  • Contributes to program and curriculum assessment, planning and implementation activities
  • Participates in NAACLS accreditation-related review, self-study and site visit processes.
  • Maintains current MLS certification
  • Assists other faculty by co-teaching or providing assistance as deemed necessary by the program director.
