Summary of Job Duties: As an integral part of the UAMS Surgical and Cardiovascular Intensive Care team, the APRN or PA works collaboratively with the attending physicians and residents to ensure continuity of care to the Cardiovascular and Surgical Intensive Care patients. The ICU APRNs or PAs help plan, implement, and evaluate health care treatments.

- For APRNs:
- Master's Degree in nursing
- Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Certification
- 3 years nursing experience
- Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas; APRN License
- Prescriptive authority and DEA license must be obtained after hire.
- For PAs:
- Master's Degree
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Certification through NCCPA
- Prescriptive authority and DEA license must be obtained after hire

- Gathers information systematically and skillfully from all sources for both new and established patients: past medical history, diagnostic tests, comprehensive physical examination, behavioral, developmental, and psychosocial assessments, differentiating between normal and abnormal variations for all body systems, and accurately interpreting diagnostic tests.
- Utilizes critical thinking and the nursing process in the assessment and identification of patient/family long and short-term physical, psychosocial, educational, and cultural needs for assigned patient populations.
- Provides ongoing and follow-up care and patient/family education.
- Accurately interprets health assessment data and applies findings in directing patient care.
- Utilizes knowledge and expertise when planning long and short-term care, including appropriate pharmacologic and diagnostic treatments as needed.
- Prioritizes patient/family needs to optimize the health outcome in a cost-efficient manner.
- Documents all health data and plan of care and care according to policy.
- Evaluates patient/family response to the plan of care through systematic follow-up.
- Documentation of the patient/family outcomes, reassessing and modifying the plan as needed to achieve health goals.
- Accurately completes all billing forms, including diagnostic (ICD-10) and treatment (CPT) codes, based on federal and state laws and UAMS policy.
- Communicates with referring physicians, allied health providers, and hospital staff as appropriate.
