Description

The primary responsibility of the Nursing Instructor is to facilitate student learning in the classroom and clinical settings. Teaching and workload assignments are scheduled throughout the calendar year, including summer. May require evening and weekend obligations at the Redfield campus and at off-campus clinical settings.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Master's degree in Nursing or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
2. Five years of recent acute clinical care experience.
3. Current unencumbered Nursing License in Nevada or other state and the ability to obtain a Nevada License upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Terminal nursing degree from a regionally accredited institution
2. Certification in a specialty area of nursing.
3. Experience in higher education including teaching, simulation instruction, accreditation, program review or assessment.

Academic Faculty Responsibilities
Candidates must exhibit an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.

1. Teach 30 (15/15) credit or contact hours during the academic year, August through May, in various modalities as assigned. This may include classroom teaching, clinical rotations, laboratory and simulation time.
2. Demonstrate awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues. Maintain sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, as well as disabilities, of students, faculty, and staff.
3. Support student learning outcomes assessment processes by teaching toward approved student learning outcomes and assessing student performance.
4. Assist with curriculum and program review, revision, and assessment. Aid in the development of new course materials and innovative instructional techniques that improve student learning.
5. Work closely with department peers and administrators to become an effective teacher and contributing member of the academic unit.
6. Attend and actively participate in College events, department and division meetings, college or Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) committees, and community service activities.
7. Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in field knowledge and pedagogies that expand breadth and depth of understanding in the discipline.
8. Complete training outlined in TMCC's Faculty Standards of Online Instruction, when and as needed.
9. Hold 5 office-hours per week.
10. Participate in student advising, recruitment, and retention efforts.
11. Travel occasionally to community and workforce sites, conferences, events, and so on, per the needs of the program.
12. Communicate and interact in a professional and collegial manner with faculty, students, staff, and administration, in the best interests of the college and the people it serves.
13. Comply with departmental administrative responsibilities and published college and NSHE policies and procedures.
14. Uphold the Mission, Vision, and Values of TMCC and perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with them.
15. Adhere to the published codes of NSHE as detailed in the Board of Regents Handbook.
16. Adhere to the Code of Ethical Standards of the State of Nevada (Nevada Revised Statutes 281A.400-281A.480).
17. Other duties as assigned.

Program Responsibilities:

1. Instruct students in nursing theory and practice using appropriate course outcomes developed by Nursing and college-wide subject area faculty. Assess student performance in these courses.
2. Assist with Nursing curriculum review, revision, and develop new course materials and innovative instructional concepts and techniques designed to facilitate student learning.
3. Apply teaching techniques effective in a laboratory/clinical setting utilizing state of the art delivery systems.
4. Prepare lesson plans, syllabi, exam questions, course information sheets, create appropriate teaching aids, and arrange provision of instructional materials and activities for student usage in classes and as homework assignments.
5. Attend and participate in non-classroom activities such as faculty development, department, division and community meetings, student advisement, student recruitment, and student retention.
6. Teach or supplement courses via distance education platforms and complete training necessary to teach in new modalities as required.
7. Assist the program director in mentoring part time faculty.
8. Teach days, evenings, and/or weekend classes and clinicals as needed.
9. Maintain regular office hours in a shared or private office.
10. Comply with Nursing program policies and procedures.
11. Understand and accept the role to be played as a partner in an educational enterprise serving the best interests of the students.
12. Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with standards, mission, and goals of Truckee Meadows Community College.
13. Function as a member of a team and independently.
14. Other program duties as assigned.

Initial placement will be dependent on education level and years of experience. Master's- $80,000- $96,000 Master's + 30- $84,000- $101,400 PhD- $89,000- $106,800
