Description

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecologists is seeking board certified/board eligible specialists in general obstetrics and gynecology to join our core academic faculty. We are looking for physicians eager to participate in patient care and the education of our residents, fellows, and medical students.
Clinical duties include provision of the full spectrum of inpatient and ambulatory care of OB-GYN patients and gynecologic surgery.

  • Work closely with our core faculty OB-Gyn Hospitalist team comprised of 7 experienced academic OB-Gyn hospitalists and 1 MFM subspecialist who educate and supervise residents, fellows, and medical students.
  • Provide direct OB and Gyn patient care alongside residents from our department, the department of Family Medicine and our MFM fellows.
Candidates should be able to effectively communicate, possess excellent clinical and teaching skills, and feel comfortable practicing in an academic environment with our multidisciplinary team which includes dedicated physicians, subspecialist support, advanced practice nurses, certified nurse midwives, and maternity nurses. This is a highly collegial and dynamic group of providers, with a focus on delivering the highest quality of evidence-based care.

Call Duties and responsibilities include:
  • Obstetrics:
    • Educating and supervising residents and medical students on Labor and Delivery, Antepartum, and Postpartum care. All hospital patient care is performed with resident physicians.
    • Collaborate with the Maternal Fetal Medicine service to evaluate and manage hospital transfers.
    • Provide supervision for Nurse Practitioners in our OB ED (Emergency Department), and consultation services for our team of Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM).
    • Provide emergency assistance and backup for two private university-based practices.
    • Overnight shifts may include supervision of MFM fellows.
  • Gynecology:
    • Overnight and weekends–Educating and supervising residents and managing an inpatient gynecology service.
    • Provide gyn consultation services for the hospital and Emergency Department.
    • Performing urgent/emergent gynecologic surgeries.
Faculty in the Department of OB-Gyn represent all subspecialties: maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, complex family planning, female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (FMPRS), and focused practice designation in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
  • 36 board-certified physicians comprised of specialists in OB/Gyn and all subspecialties
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship
  • 16 OB/Gyn current residents (4 per year) and approved for 5 residents per year (20) beginning with 2024 academic year
  • Departmental research team with PhD, MPH, students, and a physical activity and metabolism lab (PAM), and statisticians.

Required Qualifications:
  • Doctorate degree in medicine from an accredited college approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and Hospitals of American Medical Association, a Doctorate degree in Osteopathy from a college accredited by the American Osteopathic Association, or by the permanent certification by the ECFMG.
  • Successful completion of an Obstetrics & Gynecology ACGME approved residency program
  • Board Eligible/Board Certified in OB-GYN
  • Eligible for Tennessee Licensure
