License Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Experience in an urban, multicultural education setting
  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in one or more areas: Emotional Behavior Disorder (EBD), Learning Disabilities (LD), or Academic Behavioral Strategies (ABS)
  • Master's or Ph.D. preferred

Tier 3 (Full License)
  • Eligibility: You must have completed a Minnesota-approved teacher preparation program or an out-of-state program that meets Minnesota's requirements
  • Requirements:
    • Completion of a teacher preparation program
    • Passing of the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations (MTLE) in basic skills and special education content knowledge
    • This license is valid for three years and can be renewed indefinitely

Tier 4 (Advanced License)
  • Eligibility: This is for teachers with more experience and qualifications.
  • Requirements:
    • Fulfillment of all Tier 3 requirements
    • At least three years of teaching experience in Minnesota
    • A positive recommendation from a school district
    • This license is also valid for five years and can be renewed

Responsibilities: As a Special Education Teacher with The Stepping Stones Group, you will:
  • Provide high-quality instruction aligned with state and national standards, using a variety of assessment strategies (diagnostic, formative, and summative)
  • Support students on Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) by maintaining compliance and facilitating meetings with parents, regular education staff, and students
  • Collaborate with special education staff to meet the needs of students, ensuring appropriate modifications and accommodations are in place
  • Advocate for students on your caseload, and participate in regular special education and child study team meetings
  • Teach using inquiry-based methods to foster problem-solving and deep content engagement
  • Maintain knowledge of district graduation requirements and Minnesota state standards
