WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHERBackground:
In 2020, TNC, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Pew Charitable Trusts, and ZomaLab formed a collaborative partnership entitled “Enduring Earth” (EE), designed to dramatically scale up Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) initiatives. PFPs aim to secure durable, long-term, system-wide protection of the world's most important natural ecosystems to address the biodiversity and climate change crises and promote human well-being. PFPs combine a robust strategic plan for conservation with fully secured funding and financing to result in long-term, durable conservation outcomes.
Project Overview:
The Micronesia Challenge PFP is an initiative by TNC and partners to deliver lasting conservation and sustainable community development across the region. This initiative will be implemented to support the ambitious conservation goals of the Micronesia Challenge. TNC is commencing the Feasibility Stage to 1) determine whether the conditions to successfully develop and implement a Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) initiative for Micronesia are in place and 2) develop and design the PFP in partnership with the governments participating in the Micronesia Challenge, stakeholders, and local communities. The PFP will be designed to contribute significantly to the durable protection of important natural ecosystems to achieve biodiversity, climate change, and human well-being objectives, including through the expansion and improvement of coastal and marine ecosystems and the strengthening of traditional natural resource management frameworks.
The development of the Micronesia Challenge PFP will be executed over a 2-year period by a diverse team spanning multiple TNC units and consultants. The Project Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting this work under the guidance of the Deputy Director. This position is based in the Micronesia Region and is a 2-year term-limited position, with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funds. No employment visas or assistance is being offered with this position.
