The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. Performs advanced (senior-level) clerical work in areas such as recordkeeping and retention, inventory control, scheduling, purchasing, or accounting. Work involves coordinating clerical activities such as entering, compiling, tracking and tabulating data, checking documents for accuracy, handling and transporting documents and/or stock and inventory, written and oral communication with other departments, photocopying and assembling documents, and maintaining files. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.  

 

Essential Job Functions (EJFs):

 

Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

 

Communicates internally and externally to provide, exchange, or verify information, answer inquiries, address issues, or resolve/report problems or complaints; Distributes reports to other departments; Prepares correspondence and documentation using a personal computer; enters data into an automated system; Coordinates ordering, receiving, storing and issuing of supplies and equipment; Makes arrangements for repairs and services; Prepares ongoing reports; maintains confidential records, files or logs  

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

 

Knowledge of office procedures; knowledge of spelling, punctuation, grammar and arithmetic; Knowledge of Word and Excel programs; Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions; Ability to make minor decisions using rules and regulations as they apply to work problems; Ability to maintain departmental records; ability to make arithmetic computations; Ability to maintain confidentiality; Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; Ability to set priorities, establish timeframes, and meet deadlines; Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with individuals receiving services, coworkers, contract agency staff, and staff from other federal or state agencies; Ability to operate computer and general office equipment.  

 

Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:

 

Position may be required to drive and require a valid Driver's License and eligible driving record based on HHSC Fleet Management policy. Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure or obtain a valid Texas Driver's License.

 

Initial Screening Criteria:

 

Education equivalent to a high school degree. Applicant must have a minimum of two years of experience using Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel. Experience in automated data entry perferred.

 

Additional Information:

 

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).

 

Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

 

All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.

 

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
