Tetra Tech is adding a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to our Engineering team based in Salt Lake City, UT.

Your Role:

  • Design and Analysis: Develop and review fire protection systems, including fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, smoke control systems, and other fire suppression technologies. This includes performing hydraulic calculations and system design.
  • Code Compliance: Ensure that designs and installations comply with local, state, and national fire codes and standards, such as NFPA, IBC, IFC codes, building codes, and life safety codes.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct fire risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential fire hazards and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Project Management: Oversee fire protection engineering projects from conception through completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with other engineering disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Consultation and Collaboration: Work closely with our engineering team to integrate fire protection systems into building designs. Provide expert advice on fire safety measures and best practices.
  • Inspection and Testing: Conduct inspections and testing of fire protection systems to ensure they are functioning correctly and meet regulatory requirements. This may include overseeing commissioning processes.
  • Training and Education: Provide training and guidance to staff, clients, and stakeholders on fire safety practices, system operation, and emergency response procedures.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed reports, specifications, and documentation for fire protection systems and projects. Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and compliance.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, fire marshals, and other authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) to ensure compliance and address any issues related to fire safety.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest fire protection technologies, trends, and regulations. Participate in professional development and contribute to the advancement of fire protection engineering practices.
  • Emergency Planning: Assist in the development of emergency response plans and evacuation procedures to ensure safety during fire incidents.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering Mechanics
  • 25+ years of experience
  • Must be a licensed professional Engineer
  • Must be a member of Society of Fire Protection Engineers
