Summary:

Tetra Tech is currently seeking a Senior Environmental Project Manager (Manager) with high-level expertise in developing innovative natural resource planning, survey, and permitting solutions for clients through strategic evaluation of overall client goals and regulatory frameworks.  Manager responsibilities include efficiently managing projects and programs involving biological, social, and physical sciences, and permitting and planning activities. Success will be measured in the Managers ability to foster client relationships, prepare successful proposals, perform technical services, and manage projects that result in long term client relationships, provided value, and meet your personal and team's pre-defined revenue goals.      

The Senior Environmental Project Manager may be asked to provide strategic leadership, business development, and other managerial tasks to further the growth of Tetra Tech's environmental science department. Department practices include a full suite of natural resource disciplines used in performing baseline data collection, regulatory compliance, environmental planning, modeling, and permitting. The Manager will also participate in projects as a technical expert team member working on projects across Tetra Tech's global footprint.  Identifying and successfully contracting vertically integrated and cross discipline solutions to assist clients in attaining their goals by leveraging Tetra Tech's diverse group of scientists, engineers, planners, and strategists is a valued skill at Tetra Tech and one that can expand career opportunities and progression. 

The position location is based out of Reno, Nevada and involves some travel to meet with Tetra Tech team members and clients.

 

Your Role:

  • Rapidly integrate yourself into Tetra Tech to understand and leverage Tetra Tech's diverse resources and service offerings in your associated practice areas. Collaborate with operations and technical focused team members to advance business development, program and project implementation, and practice area strategies and goals with a focus on your key technical practice areas and opportunities in your region.
  • Provide leadership support to Tetra Tech's overall natural resource, permitting, and planning practice with a focus on your specific area of expertise and associated emphasis on National Environmental Policy Act and ancillary permitting.
  • As market conditions allow build, lead, and mentor a locally-based technical team of biological, physical, social scientists, planners, and as appropriate health scientists across your home operating unit in Tetra Tech.
  • Create enthusiasm and captivate the imagination of more junior team members with the work being performed regardless of where the team member sits.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews, ensuring adequate performance by team members, and leading complex projects for challenging clients.   
  • Participate in Tetra Tech's industry initiatives, and resource practice related strategy groups. Stay current with and provide input on regulatory, financial, industrial, and practice trends in pertinent natural resource disciplines, how they relate to current and future client needs, and how they are generating interdisciplinary opportunities for other practices within Tetra Tech. Watch for opportunities to advance existing initiatives and strategy groups.
  • Position yourself as a senior account lead for one or more client accounts identified as strategic pursuits.  Meet client needs and provide high value services. Cross sell services outside of candidate's technical practice area and provide programmatic support and oversight for those interdisciplinary services that are provided to the candidate's client base with an eye toward growth of the overall service portfolio provided. Provided services should result in client's desire to continue and grow business relationship with Tetra Tech.
  • Actively participate with local, regional, and global project teams to develop strategic client and opportunity capture plans and successfully implement those plans. Other activities will include RFP management, proposal preparation, contract negotiation, and project implementation.
  • Engage and retain relationships with commercial industrial, financial, law and energy firms, state, federal, and local government, and private equity and other investment groups to facilitate opportunity generation.
  • Capitalize on industry relationships/expertise/professional network to maintain and establish new relationships and ensure they are managed for growth. Attend and participate in core resource practices planning and permitting related events and conferences to promote Tetra Tech's expertise to the marketplace.
  • Manage programs and projects and ensure and/or monitor vertically integrated/cross discipline projects resulting from your strategic business development efforts are being performed to Tetra Tech's project management standards.
  • Attract and assist in recruiting key talent who fit with Tetra Tech's entrepreneurial culture and team approach. 

Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in a social, biological or physical science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Fifteen years of project management experience in natural resource (social, biological and physical) baseline and compliance monitoring, permitting, and planning. Expertise and/or strong understanding in developing innovative strategies for clients across market segments including mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, energy transmission, telecommunication, and land management.
  • Experience working across disciplines to develop interdisciplinary solutions for a variety of market segments and cross selling services outside of the candidate's technical focus area.
  • Dynamic, self-starter with successful experience with project leadership, business development, and strategic planning focused on commercial, industrial, and government clients.   
  • Direct proven account growth/management experience on accounts approaching or greater than $1M.
  • Strong network of clients and long-standing established relationships.
  • Ability to delegate project and operation tasks to more junior team members to effectively utilize candidate's strengths is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing project finances to strong profitability and team workload, mentoring, and technical quality.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication with demonstrated ability developing and delivering effective presentations to customers and management.
  • A Pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
