Summary:

This position provides technical support within the Canfield, Ohio office.  Primary activities will be to provide technical support in the field for the completion of pavement design, roadway monitoring reports, culvert evaluation and geotechnical reports.  A basic understanding of geotechnical engineering and pavement engineering is necessary.  A working knowledge of ODOT and PENNDOT design specification and pavement management is recommended.  This position also requires basic knowledge of roadway construction materials and construction issues.  The candidate may be requested to support other projects/programs that are also managed and supported within this and other departments in the Canfield and Pittsburgh office.  Day-to-day activities will be directed by the Project Engineer or Project Manager. 

Your Role:

  • Provide field support for new and on-going civil roadway and transportation development projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineer's recommendations and implement in the field.
  • Plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates phases of field work on a fast track schedule.
  • Provide field support for road use maintenance agreements (RUMA) for Oil & Gas Industry.
  • Assist engineers on roadway projects using AASHTO, ODOT and PENNDOT design standard.
  • Conducting pavement condition assessments and pavement failure investigations over a range of pavement infrastructure types and facilities.
  • Quality control of subcontractor performance and materials for construction and repair of roadways.
  • Preparation of bidding documents for construction of various types of transportation projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical papers and/or presentations for technical organizations.
  • Township, County and State Officials – develop and maintain relationships with officials at the Township, County and State Level maintain communications with them and work with them on resolving construction and roadway repair issues.
  • Contractors and Service Companies – develop and maintain relationships with vendors and maintain communications as required for outside services.
  • Interface with Project Managers, Engineers, Field Technicians, Client Project Managers and contractors as required to successfully complete projects.
  • Creation of business development materials for inclusion in proposals and marketing to new clients.
  • Business development calls to prospective clients for fast paced service-related industries.
  • Overnight travel is required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or other closely related degree is required. 
  • Minimum of 0 to 2 years of related experience with a current E.I.T. is required with eligibility for future licensure as a P.E. in Ohio and surrounding states. 
  • The candidate must be able to function with little direction in a field environment. 
  • Must be able to take conceptual direction for project tasks and interpret detailed plans to complete task. 
  • Knowledge of construction practices, procedures and technologies used to construct, rehabilitate and maintain roadways and pavements systems. 
  • General understanding of laboratory testing methods and standards for mix design and materials testing is recommended. 
  • Certification for the use of a Nuclear Densimeter is recommended.
  • Basic knowledge of geotechnical engineering, pavement engineering standards and practices for asphalt, concrete, and composite pavements. 
  • Ability to interpret geotechnical engineering reports and drawings. 
  • Ability to complete detailed field investigations, operate a video camera and provide detailed field reports on a daily basis to engineers and clients. 
  • Familiarity with geotechnical test drilling and geotechnical soil testing procedures.   
  • Computer skills must include Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • A Pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
