Australia Assists

Australia Assists is an Australian Government program that deploys skilled humanitarian specialists to support multilateral agencies, governments, civil society and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and conflict. Australia Assists aims to save lives, alleviate suffering, maintain human dignity in the wake of crises, and strengthen preparedness for future emergencies.

Tetra Tech International Development manage the Australia Assists program on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the Australia Assists program through effective and efficient management of all activities, operations, and personnel performance.
  • Grow and develop the program through investment in partnership brokering to identify new partnerships that align with the direction of the program's refreshed direction.
  • Lead in the development of a 3-year strategic plan (2025/2028), including the budget for Inception setting a clear vision for the program.
  • Manage the six-month transition and inception as a period of significant change, making all adjustments to ensure the program is aligned to DFAT priorities, focusing on the success of team restructuring and operations.
  • Provide quality reporting, milestones, deliverables, data and key performance indicators in a timely manner and ensure they meet Tetra Tech and client requirements.

Selection criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as international development, public administration, project management, business administration, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) at a senior management level, in program management and leadership roles for complex programs.
  • Proven competency for budget management, financial oversight, monitoring, and performance metrics.
  • Proficiency in using project management software and tools, such as Power BI.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with a history of successfully leading and developing high-performing teams.
