Your Role:

Tetra Tech, Inc. is searching for a Senior-Level Archeological Principal Investigator/Scientist for our Buffalo, NY office. The successful candidate will assist in project management involving archaeological resources, historic properties, and tribal resources. The candidate will assist, and at times, oversee and perform all aspects of cultural resource management and related tasks including technical quality management, client interaction, client/business development, field research and database searches, data collection and analysis, regulatory agency and tribal consultation, and technical reporting. Essential duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Design and implement testing strategies for all phases of cultural resources investigations.
  • Serve as primary or co-author for cultural resource reporting including FERC Resource Report 4 and the Historic Properties sections of NEPA documents (EA, EIS).
  • Manage and/or coordinate projects with various internal project managers and external clients.
  • Assist the Director of Cultural Resources with technical proposals and budgets for cultural resource investigations.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in cultural resource management, archaeology, anthropology, historic preservation or a closely related field. 
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience conducting and managing archeological investigations, including general project management experience (responsibility for schedule and budget). 
  • Previous experience in Cultural Resources Management/consulting is preferred over a pure academic background. 
  • The candidate must have an understanding of recontact and historic periods throughout the Northeastern and Eastern US.
  • Experience with field-directing all phases of archaeological investigations. 
  • The ideal candidate will also have an understanding of the cultural/historic resource aspects of the NHPA, the NEPA, and other environmental laws, particularly those that are relevant to permitting of infrastructure and energy-related projects.
  • The candidate should be listed on the Register of Professional Archaeologists. The candidate must also be able and available to travel and possess a valid drivers' license in good standing.
