Project Summary:
The USAID Justice Sector Support Project (JSSP) in Armenia is a five-year program designed to assist the Government of Armenia in establishing a more fair and equitable justice system and to increase public confidence in the rule of law. This will be achieved through four objectives: 1) establishing effective and efficient court administration and case management systems; 2) supporting self-regulatory institutional capacity development; 3) improving legal and professional education to meet national and international standards; 4) facilitating oversight of the implementation of justice sector reform through collaborative action. Under Objective 3, JSSP seeks to improve the quality of legal and professional education in Armenia, with special emphasis on providing practical skills both to students and professionals, as well as ensuring integrity in the academic field. Within the framework of Objective 3 on the USAID/Armenia JSSP initiative, the second edition of the Brown Mosten International Client Consulting Competition (Brown Mosten ICCC) will be held in Armenia on January 30-31, 2025. The winning team on the national stage will represent Armenia at the international stage of the competition in the United Kingdom on April 9-12, 2025. The Competition aims to promote skills and interest among law students in the counseling functions of law practice. It also encourages students to develop their interviewing, planning, and analytical skills during the lawyer-client relationship.

Position Summary:
The International Consultant for Brown Mosten ICCC will provide expert support during the organization of the national round of the Competition and develop memorandums that identify the general nature of the subject matter of the client's problem for the national rounds of the Competition. The Consultant will develop cases for the national rounds of the Competition as well as brief judges and other parties of the Competition about the cases. This role will provide guidance to the project related to the generally established practices on the organization of the national rounds of the Competition in other countries. The Consultant will report to the Chief of Party, who will provide confirmation of the acceptability of the content of all the deliverables, as well as the authorization of payment disbursement. This is a short-term position with an expected level of effort of up to 10 days with the period of performance from 23 December 2024 to 7 February 2025. The Consultant will work remotely from their location, coordinate meetings, briefings, etc. online with designated JSSP staff, and utilizing digital tools and communication platforms to effectively collaborate with the JSSP team. The Consultant must have a reliable internet connection during the assignment to ensure seamless communication.
Responsibilities:
- Provide advice and/or support to JSSP regarding the organization of the national rounds of the Competition.
- Draft memorandums, which should be on the same subject matter as the one for the International Competition and shall be provided to the project at least 22 days in advance of the first day of the National Competition, that identify the general nature of the subject matter of the client's problem for the national rounds of the Competition.
- Draft cases, which should be on the same subject matter as the one for the International Competition and shall be provided to the project at least 10 days in advance of the first day of the National Competition, for the national rounds of the Competition.
- Brief judges and any other parties to the Competition about the cases.
- Guide on the established practice during the origination of the national rounds, which will be held on 30-31 January 2025.
- Submit the deliverables such as clarifications and/or advice to JSSP regarding the organization of the national rounds of the Competition.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in law is required.
- Minimum three years of experience in the relevant field is requited.
- Experience in drafting cases for national and international rounds of Brown Mosten ICCC is required.
- Experience in judging national and/or international rounds of Brown Mosten ICCC is required.
- Familiarity with the rules and requirements of Brown Mosten ICCC is required.
- Ability to work independently, collaboratively and meet deadlines is required.
- Strong writing and communication skills are required.
- Fluency in English is required.
