The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a part-time Environmental Scientist (Entry-Level) to support our expanding renewable energy practice in New York State and the Northeastern United States. This part-time, benefited, hourly position is based out of our Rochester, NY office, with consideration for seasonal candidates.

 

The selected candidate will primarily assist in renewable energy site development, focusing on biological field studies. This role involves helping clients navigate natural resource concerns related to wildlife, wetlands, and other ecological factors.

Your Role:

  • Conduct biological surveys, including avian surveys, wetland delineations, reptile and amphibian surveys, bat surveys, and more.
  • Support permit applications for renewable energy projects at state and local levels.
  • Collaborate with a nationwide network of biologists engaged in cutting-edge wildlife and natural resource work.
  • Perform independent data QA/QC as required.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Completion of college-level coursework in ornithology, wildlife science, ecology, or general biology.
  • 1-3 years of professional experience in field data collection.
  • Experience using field technologies, including handheld GPS units, tablets, or similar data collection tools.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting avian surveys for various species in the Eastern U.S.
  • Experience conducting rare plant and/or wetland surveys using established protocols.
  • Experience conducting wildlife surveys, including reptile, amphibian, or bat surveys for special-status or common species.
  • Familiarity with wetland delineation per U.S. Army Corps of Engineers methods in the Northeastern U.S. (preferred but not required).

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $25.00 - $32.00 hr.

 

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position
