The Deputy Program Director will be responsible for leading and managing the operations of the program to deliver high quality and efficient support across all program activities.

Australia Assists

Australia Assists is an Australian Government program that deploys skilled humanitarian specialists to support multilateral agencies, governments, civil society and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and conflict. Australia Assists aims to save lives, alleviate suffering, maintain human dignity in the wake of crises, and strengthen preparedness for future emergencies.

Tetra Tech International Development manage the Australia Assists program on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day program operations, ensuring that activities are executed on time and within budget.
  • Oversee logistics, procurement, and travel to ensure the timely delivery of program resources and materials. In addition to identifying potential risks to the program in close collaboration with the Risk Manager.
  • Support the Program Director in strategic decision-making and long-term planning. Represent the program in meetings.
  • Oversee fraud control policies and procedures across the program.
  • Supervise and support direct reports, providing guidance, mentoring, and swiftly addressing performance shortfalls.

Selection criteria

  • Degree qualification in a relevant discipline such as human resource development, international development or business administration, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience (typically 7+ years) at a senior level, managing operations teams for a complex program/s ideally within an international development or humanitarian context.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting.
  • CA/CPA membership highly desired, or relevant accounting or finance qualification or experience.
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-cultural environment with colleagues, government agencies, service providers and other stakeholders.
