Project Summary
Tetra Tech is implementing the five-year, USAID-funded Power Africa Empower Nigeria Activity. Building on a decade of Power Africa success, Empower Nigeria aims to reduce energy poverty by expanding access to affordable and reliable electricity in Nigeria. Power Africa Empower Nigeria will focus on increasing electricity generation capacity, improving access to on- and off-grid electricity, and supporting Nigeria's national and state-level energy planning through four key strategic outcomes: addressing policy and regulatory challenges, enhancing transmission capacity, scaling the off-grid sector, and resolving liquidity issues within the electricity sector.
Position Summary
Tetra Tech is recruiting a change management specialist to join Empower Nigeria team in the electricity distribution sector. The candidate has to possess expert knowledge in change management principles and practices, with a strong understanding of the unique challenges and regulatory requirements of the Nigeria energy sector. This role is pivotal in ensuring smooth transitions during organizational changes and improvements. The change management specialist will report to the Senior Technical Advisor and work closely with other cross-functional teams to support initiatives that enhance distribution services and customer satisfaction.
Position Responsibilities
- Design and implement effective change management strategies tailored to specific projects and organizational needs within the Nigeria electricity distribution sector.
- Define change management objectives, criteria for success, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to understand their perspectives, gather feedback, and ensure alignment with Empower Nigeria goals.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Empower Nigeria outcome leads, internal teams, and external partners.
- Assess training needs and develop training materials to enable DISCO employees to adapt to changes effectively.
- Facilitate workshops, coaching sessions, and training programs to foster a culture of adaptability.
- Create and implement with Empower Nigeria partner DISCOs comprehensive communication plans to inform stakeholders of upcoming changes and updates.
- Prepare communication materials, including presentations, newsletters, and reports to keep all relevant parties informed.
- Identify areas of resistance to change and develop strategies to mitigate these challenges.
- Provide support and guidance to utility experts and DSICO teams to address concerns and facilitate acceptance.
- Conduct assessments to gauge the impact of proposed changes on employees, processes, and systems within partner DISCOs.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans to address potential challenges.
- Track and measure the progress of change initiatives and their impact on organizational performance and employee engagement.
- Analyze results, identify areas for improvement, and adjust change strategies as necessary. Effectively integrate gender and social inclusion, localization, climate change, reaching underserved markets, capacity building and other guiding principles throughout all aspects of EWA implementation.
- Develop policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging methodologies in change management and organizational development.
- Contribute to a series of reporting including weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports as well as monitoring and evaluation tools.
- Share insights and lessons learned with the team to foster continuous improvement.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, organizational development law, economics, change management, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in change management, particularly in the electricity distribution or utility industry.
- Strong understanding of organizational dynamics, utilities, and regulatory frameworks affecting the electricity distribution sector.
- Demonstrated familiarity with and prior experience addressing energy sector challenges in Nigeria.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Preferred but Not Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in business administration, organizational development law, economics, change management, or a related field.
- Experience designing and implementing programs that promote gender equality and women's empowerment in the energy sector.
- Certification in change management.
- Proficiency in change management software and project management tools.
- Working experience in Nigeria.
