Overview
The Department of Buildings & General Services (BGS) has a part-time opening for a Custodian. This position will work an average of 8 to 16 hours per week, between 8am and 4pm on weekdays.
Primary duties include:
- Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors.
- Cleaning and dusting offices, furniture, and equipment.
- Cleaning restrooms and replenishing supplies
- Loading and unloading surplus supplies, furniture, and equipment.
- Moving supplies, furniture, and equipment to optimize the use of storage and sales floor space.
- Testing electronic items to document condition.
- Preparing metal and electronics for recycling pick-up.
- May perform groundskeeping and snow removal.
- May be responsible for securing building.
The ideal candidate will be eager to learn custodial and minor maintenance practices, as well as how to operate the necessary equipment. Physical capability is essential for performing job duties, and you must be able to follow both written and verbal instructions. Strong teamwork skills will help you collaborate effectively with colleagues, while a willingness to develop basic computer skills will allow you to navigate online training, time entry, and email systems. Whether working independently or under supervision, dependability is key to success in this role.
Who May ApplyThis position, Part-Time Custodian I (Job Requisition #52125), is open to all State employees and external applicants. This is a temporary position. Temporary work is typically for variable hours and is not expected to be full-time. The State does not guarantee 40 hours of work per week.

Environmental FactorsDuties are performed during an assigned shift at one or more state owned or leased buildings. Cleaning work often involves addressing bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infections material. Incumbents must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition and ability to climb ladders and lift weights of up to 50-lbs. is necessary. Overtime and evening work may be required.
Minimum QualificationsNo specific education and experience required.
Special RequirementsSome positions in this class require valid driver's license, and own transportation for travel between work locations.
A criminal record check and/or child abuse registry check may be required for some positions within this class based on the locations where duties are to be performed.
