The Vermont Department of Labor is dedicated to improving the lives of Vermonters by connecting job seekers and career advancers with training opportunities and employers. We are seeking a motivated, customer focused individual to serve as a Job Center Specialist I (JCS I).  Successful JCS I's embody a commitment to operational excellence and compassion in customer service. In this entry-level role in the Rutland regional office, you will be the first point of contact for individuals seeking employment and training services. Your responsibilities will include warmly welcoming visitors, promoting the department's services, conducting interviews to assess needs, guiding individuals through available resources, and recording notes in customer service records. You will utilize your knowledge of community partnerships to make appropriate referrals and provide coaching to support individuals through employment challenges. Under the supervision of the VDOL Regional Manager or Supervisor, you will exercise independent judgment in delivering these crucial services. Environmental Factors

Interviews clients who are often under significant personal and financial burden, and who may exhibit significant stress and anxiety and may exhibit uncooperative or angry behaviors. It is expected that JCS I staff will engage all clients in a manner that exhibits professionalism, sensitivity, fairness, tact and diplomacy, and helps clients understand the services available to them through VDOL programs. Supportive attitude and actions are expected to be demonstrated in dealing with clients.

Position is assigned to a regional office location, but there may be times when travel between multiple regional locations will be required based on Department needs.  May include travel to employers' worksites, job fairs/hiring events, schools and community partner meetings. Valid driver's license and private means of transportation is required.

Minimum Qualifications

One (1) year or more experience in customer service, employment services, human services, human resources, or a closely related field.
