Overview

The Vermont Department of Libraries is seeking an Interlibrary Loan and Government Services Librarian. This position manages two core programs for the Department of Libraries: interlibrary loan and services to state employees. This position supervises two staff members and reports directly to the Assistant State Librarian for Information and Access.

 

This position includes the following responsibilities: 

Interlibrary Loan 

Manage the Department of Libraries' interlibrary loan service, including in-state and out-of-state services, through the CLOVER system. 

Manage the Interlibrary Loan Courier Service with approximately 115 member libraries. Handle requests and issues for both in-state and out-of-state borrowing and lending and resolves issues with libraries for both ILL and the courier service. Management responsibilities for this program include both formal and informal trainings for participant library personnel, adding libraries to the network, and assessing the program. This position has programmatic oversight of the courier grant, including reporting.

Chair the State of Vermont Interlibrary Loan Roundtable and act as the expert for interlibrary loan in the state. 

Supervise ILL staff. 

Government Services

Manage State Library services to state employees. This includes demonstrating databases, services, and promoting collections to employees across Vermont state government. Serve as reference librarian for state employees and members of the legislature.

Teach core continuing education reference course. Teach students enrolled in the Vermont Department of Libraries Certificate Program a five-session reference course. Assist with other continuing education courses if requested.

Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to:

Assist with the Palace Project and Vermont Online Library. This position will assist with selection of materials for the online eBook/eAudiobook platform, the Palace Project. 

Assist with administering the LIBConnect customer service platform.


Ideal candidates will have experience managing interlibrary loan, the ability to speak to groups and present ideas, and the ability to balance and manage responsibilities in a busy environment. They will also bring supervisory experience, knowledge of databases, research methods, reference practices, and grants.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in an office setting and at libraries and other venues throughout the state. Requires extensive use of computer and information technology. Significant job related travel is required, and incumbents may be required to travel out-of-state to attend meetings, trainings, and conferences. Private means of transportation may be necessary for required travel. Certain job functions may need to be performed outside normal State business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Requires work with the public, with governmental agencies and officials, and with non-profit and educational organizations. Travel may be necessary in all types of weather. Some lifting of heavy material is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree or higher in library science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association AND three (3) years or more of post-degree library experience.

OR

Master's degree or higher in related field AND three (3) years or more of library leadership or non-profit governance/policy leadership experience.

AND

Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, board management, policy development, training, or non-profit management.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications

Public library experience.

Experience in library administration including supervision of staff.
