Overview

The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) presents an exciting opportunity for a civil/ environmental engineer interested in working on planning and construction of municipal and private water and wastewater infrastructure projects. We invite you to apply today to join our growing engineering team in the role of an environmental engineer to contribute to public health and environmental protection. This position is situated within the Design and Construction Engineering Section of DEC's Water Investment Division. As a member of the Design and Construction Engineering team you will play a pivotal role in making progress towards meeting statewide drinking water, wastewater and stormwater goals. Your responsibilities will include plans and specs review and construction oversight of publicly funded water, wastewater and stormwater system improvements.

Who May Apply

This position, Environmental Engineer V - Water Investment Division - Limited Service (Job Requisition #50677), is open to all State employees and external applicants.  It is a Limited Service position, which is non-tenured and authorized for a specific period of time. Limited Service positions are established for specially funded projects or programs.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary for which private means of transportation must be available. Fieldwork may involve exposure to chemicals, gases, hazardous liquid and solid waste, and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental, sanitary, chemical, water resources, civil or mechanical engineering AND two (2) or more years of experience in a related engineering field.

 

OR

 

One (1) year or more of experience as an Environmental Engineer IV
