Overview

The Economic Development Specialist position will assist Department of Economic Development program managers in delivering the Department's various programs.  It will report administratively to the Deputy Commissioner of Economic Development.  Additionally, the incumbent will provide consultative, administrative, and technical work at a professional level involving the development, management, and monitoring of various state grant programs administered by the Department. The successful applicant will have the skills required to collect, verify, analyze and report on complex economic data contained in database and spreadsheet formats.  The position will be responsible for training and technical assistance to professional staff at Vermont businesses and regional partners. The position involves significant in-State travel to attend informational and monitoring visits with grant applicants and awardees.  The position participates in the compliance review of grant applications, preparation of reports to the Vermont legislature and for the website, and all other support as necessary.

 

As of July 14, 2024 the step 1 rate for pay grade 23 will be $26.57 per hour.

Environmental Factors

Duties require some travel both instate and outside the State as well as evening and weekend meetings with business and industrial clients, development organizations, and others. Considerable human relations and negotiation skills are required. Some public speaking will be required.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelors degree or higher in accounting, finance, economics, government AND one (1) year of experience in local, state, or federal government or a not for profit.  Experience with grants for economic or community development is a plus.  

 

OR

 

Three (3) years' experience in any government or not for profit role relating to economic or community development. Grant experience a plus. 

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree.
