Overview

The Geotechnical Section at the Agency of Transportation has an exciting opportunity to join our small squad of engineers and geologists working on a variety of projects from scoping through construction. We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated and critical-thinking individual to work as a geotechnical engineer on transportation infrastructure throughout Vermont. As a geotechnical engineer, this position collaborates closely with personnel in the Structures, Roadway, Construction and Maintenance teams at the Agency.

This position will be part of a team that designs and inspects subsurface investigations, performs engineering soils testing and analyses, and develops recommendations for bridge and pavement foundations, retaining walls, and landslide repair.

 

Major job duties of this position will include:

  • Sampling and logging of borings in the field
  • Site reconnaissance activities
  • Laboratory testing of soils
  • Geotechnical design of foundations and landslides
  • Field inspection of geotechnical items on construction projects.   

 

The ideal candidate enjoys problem solving, working both independently and as part of a team, spending time in field and office environments, and has excellent verbal and written communication skills. This position reports to the Construction and Materials Bureau Headquarters in Berlin, VT, and some remote work will be possible.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND four (4) years of engineering experience. 
OR
Associates degree in civil engineering, construction management, architectural engineering, or related technical field AND six (6) years of engineering experience INCLUDING licensure as an Engineer Intern.
