Overview
Buildings and General Services (BGS) at the State of Vermont has an exciting opportunity with room for growth as a BGS Maintenance Mechanic II.
This position is located at the Waterbury State Complex. This position requires the Mechanic to be team oriented, have a wide variety of building knowledge and maintenance, and be able to work in a diverse environment. Preventative maintenance is a priority for our buildings and will be a primary focus of your work, while also dealing with any emergencies that may arise.
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 7am to 3:30pm. A valid driver's license is required, and this position requires successful completion of many background checks.
BGS is a diverse organization with over 340 employees serving state agencies and departments within the State Government. The Department provides the facilities services required for all state agencies and departments to accomplish their missions. Environmental FactorsDuties are performed at state buildings including correctional facilities. Contact with inmates may be anticipated. Incumbents may encounter harassment or hostile behavior and must be able to respond in a calm and professional manner. Must be able to climb ladders, lift weights up to 75 pounds, and work in cramped, wet, or poorly ventilated areas. Plumbing repairs often entail exposure to raw sewage, for which protective clothing must be worn. Work in all types of weather should be anticipated. May require possession of a valid driver's license. May require emergency response to calls outside of regular work hours. Some potential for physical injury may be present.
Minimum QualificationsTwo (2) or more years of experience in building construction, structural maintenance, or building repair and maintenance.
Preferred QualificationsCompletion of a vocational/technical training program in building trades, mechanical repair, industrial arts, or a closely related field.
Special RequirementsSome positions in this class may require a valid driver's license and/or own transportation for travel between work sites.
A criminal record check and/or child abuse registry check may be required for some positions within this class based on the locations where duties are to be performed.
