Overview

The Municipal Assistance Section of the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) is seeking an AOT Project Manager to join our team! As a Project Manager, you will assist with the oversight of project granting, scoping, design, permitting, ROW acquisitions, construction and inspection of various types of State and/or Federally funded, locally managed construction projects.

 

The incumbent will be assigned as Project Manager on a multitude of projects from the Municipal Highway & Stormwater Mitigation Program, The Bicycle & Pedestrian program, and the Transportation Alternatives Program. Working in Municipal Assistance is very rewarding as you will see positive outcomes and benefits to the many local communities in which we work. You will work with a variety of partners including engineering consultants, regional planning commissions, road foreman, town managers and administrators.

 

This is a very dynamic position that will provides skills, education and experience that will ultimately support future career growth. Seasonal and frequent field work and travel to municipalities throughout Vermont is anticipated, while the majority of duties are completed in an office environment. Hybrid telework and alternative work schedules may be available as outlined in the current State policy.

Environmental Factors

Duties are largely performed in an office setting; however, some field travel may be necessary. Fieldwork may involve exposure to hazardous materials, traffic hazards and construction sites during all weather conditions; and may involve traversing rough terrain and bodies of water. Some work outside of regular working hours, including attendance at public meetings, may be required. Strong differences of opinion may be encountered on a regular basis and these should be handled in a professional and respectful manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Engineering AND three (3) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering.

OR

Bachelor's degree in Engineering OR Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in civil engineering.

OR

Associate degree and ten (10) years or more of experience in Transportation Engineering or related field, including one (1) year or more of experience in the aspects of project delivery.

OR

Certification in Project Management (PMP Certificate) with ten (10) years of experience in Transportation Engineering or a related field, including one (1) year or more of experience in the aspects of project delivery.

 

NOTE: Some positions may require two years of supervisory experience. Participation in State of Vermont provided supervisor development programs may be substituted for supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience interpreting project plans and cost analysis, contract compliance and interpretation, methods of time estimation and recording.
