Shaw Industries is seeking a Construction Project Manager for Corporate Engineering. Shaw Industries Corporate Engineering (CE) supports the corporation's manufacturing, distribution, and administrative facilities. Although based primarily in Dalton, GA, CE is deployed on projects nationwide and internationally. The department offers feasibility studies, high-level and detailed budget estimates, engineering design, project management, consulting, forensic investigations, and CAD services. CE includes specialists to meet the needs of each business segment, divided into four support groups: Fibers & Yarn, Carpet & Backing, Hard Surfaces, and Construction & Global Facilities. The staff comprises mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural engineers, construction and facilities project managers, interior and CAD designers, and administrative personnel.

Position Overview:    

This position is within the Corporate Engineering Construction and Global Facilities Group and reports to the Construction Manager. The group supports all facilities and departments across the organization.  The position is responsible to develop and execute complex, multi-disciplined capital and expense projects with limited direction, prepare technical specifications, and utilize project management tools to ensure projects meet safety, performance, and budget requirements. The position requires close coordination with management, other corporate departments, and outside agencies.    

 

Responsibilities:  

Project Engineering:  

  • Envisions and develops project concept  

  • Solicits and documents facility requirements and input  

  • Partners with internal engineers as needed to develop best practice design solutions, cost estimates and timelines for project proposals.  

  • Develops and maintains project budgets and timelines, facility operation's needs, and corporate leased space.  

  • Manage outside contractors.  

  • Manage a wide variety of construction projects consisting of (but not limited to) manufacturing/distribution expansions, restrooms, breakrooms, showrooms, office space, etc.  

Project Administration:  

  • Using standard Corporate Engineering templates, assemble specifications and documents to adhere to drawing and bid package standards, and solicit bids and manage service contracts for various needs of the facilities.  

  • Issue requisitions and approve receipts through PeopleSoft.  

  • Publish project status reports to keep business partners regularly updated.  

  • Prepare Asset Detail documents and submit to Corporate Assets.  

  • Assemble completed project file documents and archive per Corporate Engineering Standards.  

Project Execution:  

  • Manage contractors on site closely ensuring that corporate policies such as safety, ethics, environmental, etc. are enforced.  

  • Take full responsibility for all contractor activities; act as the primary liaison between Corporate Engineering and the facility occupants to minimize disruption to normal activities and communicate any necessary disruptions to management and occupants in advance.  

  • Perform Quality Control function, inspecting all contractor work and vendor supplied equipment to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, timeline requirements, etc., issued in the bid package.  

Technical Resource:   

  • Possess fundamental knowledge of building systems including mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection and security systems.  

  • Possess technical composition skills to prepare complex business documents and ability to read technical drawings.  

  • Participate and support efforts regarding initiatives for Corporate Engineering.  

Other Administrative:  

  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and be able to respond promptly to requests from management and various building occupants.

  • Using Concur, submit monthly expense reports for reimbursement of engineering related travel.  

  • Maintain a professional image in conducting business with both internal and external customers and service providers.    

Requirements:  

  • 4-year Engineering/Construction Management/Architecture degree and two (2) years progressive project management experience in a construction related field, OR high school diploma/GED with five (5) years progressive project management experience in a construction related field.  Experience in a heavy industrial/manufacturing setting is a plus.  

  • Possess excellent technical writing skills for producing specifications, project reports and communications with external suppliers.

  • Demonstrate the ability to accurately budget, track, and control project costs.  

  • Knowledge of International Building Code, Life Safety Code, Storm Water BMP's, ADA, and NFPA fire system requirements is a plus. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of project contract development, ethical bidding standards, and bid evaluation. 

  • Demonstrated record of completing projects on time, on budget,  

  • and to the requirements of the design criteria. 

  • Proficiency in project management and engineering software tools, including Smartsheet, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office products. 

  • Willingness to travel, including international. May require extended overnight travel at times
