As the Product Development Team Leader (Manager) you will lead a group of scientists and technicians to develop and launch projects and products for internal and external customers that meet or exceed VOC. You will work within a group of cross functional partners to guide decision making on products and projects. You will act as a steering team member or process owner on project teams and ensure work is completed and proper communication. Projects can include new product development, optimization of existing portfolio, ingredient and supplier changes, improvement projects, and others as deemed necessary.  You will be responsible for leading partners to follow department SOP for development and ensure adherence to food safety, quality, regulatory, PLM, partner safety, and other requirements and guidelines.  You will be responsible for developing others through yearly goal setting and performance rating processes. 

This position is located at our Home Office in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

What you'll do

  • Defines work plans and reports, with comprehensive understanding of department SOP; demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of quality tools in a leadership role, and takes initiative to develop and evaluate concepts for new products, including exploratory projects; anticipates the needs of management to meet these needs.
  • Applies an understanding of Schreiber Foods' products and process categories while working with partners in different parts of the organization to solve problems and improve quality.
  • Good understanding of regulatory standards and labeling issues; good understanding of SFI labeling practices and patent law; has a broadened core area of expertise; recognizes products and/or processes that may be patentable in their development.
  • Promotes new technology and demonstrates willingness to take risks; has several examples of technical breakthroughs; developed a core area of technical expertise of relevance to SFI.
  • Demonstrates good understanding of SFI philosophies, processes and systems and uses this knowledge to meet customer requirements; works to establish a network within SFI to effectively get projects completed; maintains good understanding of the food industry and competitors that impact SFI; maintains a network of key contacts with academia, government and/or industry.
  • Leads teams in the development of new products and processes which are cross functional and of high impact to SFI; effectively handles pressures that may come from customers, suppliers, partners and management; takes firm stands on his/her technical expertise when necessary.
  • Conveys complex technical concepts to non-technical partners at all levels of the organization, including upper management; writes technically complex reports; develops position papers on issues of high impact; independently plans and conducts presentations of significant impact, and gives presentations to a wide audience.
  • Together with other members of the leadership team, ensures compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality Plans in addition to customer requirements. Interprets and communicates customer requirements to plant production and/or support department teams. Establishes and Audits PCPs, CCPs and Standard Operating Procedures to define and monitor processes to ensure customer requirements are met. Reviews incidents during which the procedures are not met, and determines appropriate corrective action for partners failing to follow standard procedures.

What you need to succeed

  • Equivalent of a Bachelor degree in Food Science, Dairy Science, Food Engineering, or related field
  • Master's degree preferred
  • 8+ years of project management experience
  • Experience in food manufacturing and in product development
  • Experience in one or more of the following: development of natural cheese, process cheese, yogurt, cream cheese, cultured dairy, dairy alternatives (soy, coconut, pea, ect), UHT, preferred
  • History of leading successful new product development from concept to implementation and commercial sale
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams
  • Experience managing remote resources a plus
  • Proven leadership, excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Work environment will include office setting, pilot plant, and production plant.  Candidate would need to have the ability to work in an environment that can be noisy, wet/humid, warm or cold on occasion when visiting the production or pilot facility.  In addition, the candidate may need to go to a production facility that has stairs or steps
  • Must have communication abilities in English (written and verbal)
  • Travel may be required up to 15%
