Savage Services is currently hiring for a Senior Operations Manager who will be responsible for the overall management, growth and development of our Intermountain Transportation businesses based in the Carbon County, UT region.  

 

Responsibilities / Job Duties:

  • Assigned to oversee Coal Service operation
  • Lead and mentor other managers and supervisors
  • Live and lead “Nothing Trumps Safety at Savage”
  • Oversee the operations and logistics, and maintain a very proactive and forward looking forecasting system for logistics planning
  • Manage relationships and contracts with contractors and customers
  • Demonstrate an "ownership" mentality
  • Using Savage's S7 Operating System to manage the complete operations, logistics and business functions
  • Lead the effort to grow Savage's current business by researching, identifying, and evaluating new potential opportunities
  • Administer services agreements between Savage and its customers
  • Assist efforts to identify and develop logistics / operations opportunities
  • Oversee development and implementation of operational business plans and budgets
  • Provide leadership in implementation and execution of Savage System
  • Understand customer's key requirements and ensure that they are met
  • Create an environment where people are committed to safety, professionalism and cleanliness
  • Develop systems to maximize the effective utilization of people and equipment
  • Profit and loss, budgeting, planning, projecting, variance analysis and manage key performance indicators

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Ability to hire, train and treat employees right

  • Ability to promote a culture where safety and environmental issues are held at a premium
  • Timely and effective follow-up and follow through with customer, employees and company (do what you say you're going to do)

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (specifically Excel and Word)
  • Self-starter capable of working independently, in line with company goals, strategies and policies
  • Creative and strategic in approaching issues
  • Commercial project conceptualization and development ability
  • Good analytical, planning and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and carry critical projects to completion
  • Ability to read and understand financial statements
  • Ability to work with multiple operations and multiple tasks
  • Strong presentation skills both in an internal company setting and in a customer setting
  • Ability to lead a start-up operation

 

Education/Experience:

  • 5-7 years related work experience demonstrating leadership capabilities
  • Ability to travel within Mountain Transportation Unit as needed
  • Ideal candidate will have experience in one or more of the following industry areas:
    • Logistics, operations, and/or business development
    • Bulk commodity transportation
    • Pneumatic trailer experience a plus
    • Terminal operations and/or business development
  • Possess experience in some or all of the following areas:
    • Management experience with responsibility for developing and executing budgets
    • Customer and contractor contract negotiation and administration
    • Business development/commercial experience
    • Cultivating strong business partnerships with customers, suppliers, and key contractors
    • Recruiting, developing, and leading a team
    • Identifying and implementing solutions to commercial, operating and financial problems
  • Requires approximately 15-20% regular travel and heavy travel cycles are common. (Principle travel inside Mountain Trucking Unit, international travel infrequent)
