What you'll be doing:

As the Rail Locomotive Maintenance Manager you will need to need to have competency and hands on experience with the following activities: 

  • At least 10 years hand on experience conducting and managing maintenance activities on 4 and six axle EMD locomotives. 
  • Balanced time in the field between different locations, (Binham and Garfield, Elko, Cedar City, SEt Price, UT) 
  • Must have thorough electrical knowledge of EMD 4 axle and six axle maintenance and trouble shooting background, be familiar with FRA standards pertaining to locomotives, have a working knowledge surrounding trouble shooting 26 L air brake equipment 
  • Ability to read electrical schematics pertaining to the Savage EMD fleet  
  • Must be familiar and experience troubleshooting NREC's N-Force systems, TMV excitation systems, ZTR's AESS systems, Qtron Qtrac 2000 systems and cattron remote control systems,  hands on experience with EMD mechanical repair and maintenance including power assembly replacements, generator changes, equipment alignment, extensive experience in field repairs including wheel truing with manual lathes, utilizing mobile cranes to conduct wheel/motor replacements 
  • Can provide direction, training and monitoring the progress of hourly employees ensuring they are working safely while working in rail yards and adverse conditions.  
  • Experience in mechanical budgeting, explaining variances and conducting proposals both internally and externally, willing to travel at least 50% of the time, work long hours when needed and be prepared to respond to operational emergencies at all times.

Here are some of the physical requirements of this role:

  • Ability to work outside in ALL weather conditions (snow, rain, sub-freezing temps), to be on call for mechanical emergencies on a 24/7 basis 
  • In good physical condition (able to walk one (1) to two (2) miles per shift) 
  • Physically able to climb up and down rail cars/ladders safely
  • Potential work sites include industrial rail facilities, remote rail lines, and will require someone who can work safely around this type of environment, as well as ensure compliance to strict OSHA and FRA regulations
  • Ability to lift and maneuver components up to 50 pounds
