Here is what you will be doing: 

  • Daily communication with customers and railroads on scheduling and other issues to ensure a smooth and safe operation
  • Participate in budget preparation, management of financial information
  • Possesses experience and knowledge with;
    • Locomotive In-Plant Switching Operations
    • SIT Yard Switching Operations
    • Steaming, unloading and loading of railcars
    • Minor railcar Maintenance
    • Minor track Maintenance
  • Provide "Worry-Free" service to the customer on every shift every day.
  • Build strong relationships with customer contacts
  • Red and understand the customer contract and rate structure
  • Learn, implement, teach, and execute the S7 Operating System
  • Promote a safety culture where each employee has the value and attitude that unsafe behaviors and conditions will not happen on their shift
  • Committed to teaching and promoting personal responsibility for identifying and performing safe behaviors, conditions, and environmental responsibility
  • Delegate and utilize time management
  • Develop and execute a business plan (including budgeting, projecting, variance analysis, and cost management)
  • Be proactive in problem solving, making decisions, organizing and directing people, and utilizing coaching techniques for improving behaviors
  • Innovative solutions driven to keep employee turnover in balance
  • Work with administrative systems to support operation to meet deadlines
  • Set an example of professionalism and create an environment where people are committed to professionalism and cleanliness

Requirements of a successful Operations Manager:

  • College degree preferred
  • Read, write and understand English and follow written and/or verbal instructions
  • 2+ years management experience
  • 2+ years of railcar switching and loading experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • This position is required to work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions
  • Lift and carry at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Climb steps and ladders
  • Walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
  • Use basic hand tools
