Here is what you will be doing:
- Daily communication with customers and railroads on scheduling and other issues to ensure a smooth and safe operation
- Participate in budget preparation, management of financial information
- Possesses experience and knowledge with;
- Locomotive In-Plant Switching Operations
- SIT Yard Switching Operations
- Steaming, unloading and loading of railcars
- Minor railcar Maintenance
- Minor track Maintenance
- Provide "Worry-Free" service to the customer on every shift every day.
- Build strong relationships with customer contacts
- Red and understand the customer contract and rate structure
- Learn, implement, teach, and execute the S7 Operating System
- Promote a safety culture where each employee has the value and attitude that unsafe behaviors and conditions will not happen on their shift
- Committed to teaching and promoting personal responsibility for identifying and performing safe behaviors, conditions, and environmental responsibility
- Delegate and utilize time management
- Develop and execute a business plan (including budgeting, projecting, variance analysis, and cost management)
- Be proactive in problem solving, making decisions, organizing and directing people, and utilizing coaching techniques for improving behaviors
- Innovative solutions driven to keep employee turnover in balance
- Work with administrative systems to support operation to meet deadlines
- Set an example of professionalism and create an environment where people are committed to professionalism and cleanliness
Requirements of a successful Operations Manager:
- College degree preferred
- Read, write and understand English and follow written and/or verbal instructions
- 2+ years management experience
- 2+ years of railcar switching and loading experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
- This position is required to work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions
- Lift and carry at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis
- Climb steps and ladders
- Walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
- Use basic hand tools
