SAIC is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to support battery integration efforts for Expeditionary Energy Systems in Crane, IN.
JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
- Creating System Qualification Test Plans, Performance Test Plans, Safety/Hazard Characterization Test Plans, Procedures, and Reports.
- Execute (or oversee a team to execute) the tests at NSWC Crane and Expeditionary Battery fielded system locations and battery vendor sites.
- Conduct Field Integration and Operational Check-out through Initial Operating Capability, perform periodic Field Maintenance on large batteries.
- Perform Reliability Analyses and Safety Engineering processes on systems.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND CLEARANCE:
- Bachelor's and five (5) years or more experience; master's and three (3) years or more experience
- Experience with safety assessments (ie: Hazard Analyses, FMEA's, Fault Tree Analyses, Root Cause Failure Analyses).
- Experience working directly with military personnel of various ranks (i.e. enlisted through officers), either as a DoD civilian, military, or contractor personnel.
- Experience with test and evaluation support, requirements validation and verification, project planning, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Interim secret clearance required to start with the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance. SAIC will sponsor the clearance process.
- US Citizenship required.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Ability to discuss technical terms and concepts with a variety of Integrated Product Team (IPT) members
- Experience with Navy manned and unmanned underwater systems
- Understanding of system engineering, as applied to the range of energy storage devices such as batteries, fuel cells, and other devices and systems
- Energy storage and power systems
- Military (Navy, Marine Corps) and NASA vehicles
- Low voltage (24 VDC) to high voltage (300-400 VDC) systems
- Small (< 2 kWh) to Large (> 1000 kWh) systems
- Specify and integrate associated power conversion systems
- Working knowledge of Military and NASA design requirements and safety requirements (e.g. S9310-AQ-SAF-010, SG270-BV-SAF-010, JSC-20793B, NASA/TM-2009-215751 /NESC-RP-08-75/06-069-I)
- Working knowledge of Industry Standards for design and safety (e.g. UL, IEC, IATA)
- Systems Requirements Specifications (and decompose into derived requirements and subsystem specs)
- Safety Assessments (Hazard Analyses, FMEA's, Fault Tree Analyses, Root Cause Failure Analyses)
