Position Summary
We are currently seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Systems Administrator (Senior) to join our team in Ashburn, VA to begin an exciting and challenging career. Candidates must be proficient in Unix, Linux, and Tomcat.
Job Responsibilities:
- Working closely with the technical lead and senior developers, will participate in the systems engineering, script development, integration, testing and validation, and all aspects of the software life cycle (requirements to design to implementation to test) for backend application involving extensive messaging and transaction processing.
- Responsible for developing and testing shell scripts and working with team members.
- The candidate will be expected to learn and adhere to the continuous integration, automated unit testing and other AGILE practices established within the team using the tools that are currently used by the team.
- The candidate is expected to diagnose and fix issues in existing application components as part of maintenance.
- Perform maintenance of hosts and coordinate with Unix team for patching/upgrades.
- Analyze and maintain legacy scripts that are essential to maintaining and optimizing the systems that ingest cargo data from internal and external systems.
- Manage scripts that support scheduled maintenance windows. E.g., maintain the cronjob used to pause perpetual feeds and restart them.
- Maintain low-level scripts and manage the host inventory.
- Request new hosts as needed while maintaining the pool for all backend teams including TASPD Cargo and Passenger teams.
- Perform proactive maintenance for internal tools used to monitor queue depts, alerts and information messages.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
- Low-level scripting languages such as Unix Shell, C, C++ and SQL
- Application server administration for maximum throughput, operations and data flow
- Unix/Linux; Tomcat system administration
- Trillium Application Server experience, the ability to manage the TSI web server, configure and manage Trillium projects, launch Trillium as a Windows service, and evaluate Trillium cloud offerings (preferred, not required)
- BS Degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Engineering, etc.)
- 5+ years of experience supporting Enterprise Systems
- Work with ISSOs to mitigate security vulnerabilities
- Demonstrated expertise in software engineering practices (e.g., reading/generating software specs, design patterns, continuous integration)
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate rigorous Unit testing as part of administration activities is essential
- Gitlab/JIRA/Jenkins for CI/CD
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Experience supporting 24x7, mission essential systems
- First-hand experience working with large project teams (working with the Federal Government a strong plus)
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and creatively to develop innovative solutions to software problems
- Ability to develop and maintain an application environment with stringent performance requirements
- Agile development experience a plus
Customer Requirements:
- Clearance – Ability to obtain and hold a public trust position and favorable suitability based on a CBP Background Investigation
- Citizenship – Must be a US Citizen
- Location – Hybrid with on-site 2 days in Ashburn, VA.
