Position Overview:  We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Principal Systems Engineer to join our talented team. This role requires a balance of technical experience, conceptual thinking, and practical application to manage and evolve systems that integrate our navigation systems with advanced engineering solutions. Your work will directly impact the effectiveness and efficiency of operations, both internally and for our clients.

Work is performed on site in Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.

This position is contingent upon award news Spring of 2026.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Perform Systems Engineering activities related to navigation systems including: concept of operations formulation, requirements definition, analysis and engineering, system analysis and design, validation and verification, systems integration, system & op. performance analysis,  Lifecycle cost analysis & estimation, decision analysis, and physical and functional configuration audits (PCA/FCA) as required.
  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. 
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into detailed technical specifications and manage requirement traceability. 
  • Evaluate design tradeoffs and provide specific, detailed information for selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. 
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive navigation system, including hardware and software components.
  • Lead the integration of various system components and ensure seamless functionality across the entire system.
  • Monitor system performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement optimizations to ensure system efficiency.
  • Identify potential system risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Performing root cause analysis and propose solutions
  • Ensure system compliance with industry standards and regulations 
  • Define and implement quality control procedures
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on the team.
  • Ensure project stays within budget and meets delivery deadlines.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's level degree in an Engineering discipline and fourteen (14) years or more experience; or Masters level degree in an Engineering discipline and twelve (12) years or more experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of navigation system principles and design methodologies.
  • Proficiency in various engineering disciplines like software, hardware, networking, and database management. 
  • Knowledge of system modeling and simulation tools. 
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms and technologies.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams across different engineering disciplines. 
  • Experience in stakeholder management and communication. 
  • Ability to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Required Security Clearance:

  • US Citizenship required.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
    • Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is preferred.
