SAIC is looking for a Senior Network Engineer with experience in US Navy IT networks to support the sustained operation and maintenance of a newly deployed naval enterprise transport network, ensuring 24/7/365 availability and reliability. The position will support end-to-end network, system, and element visibility; facilitate rapid operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning to maintain the operational integrity of a mission-critical network, requiring both technical expertise and a commitment to excellence in service delivery. This position will work a schedule of 7AM – 3PM, 5 days per week to include weekends and a rotating on call requirement.
Work will be performed at the Navy customer's site in Suffolk, VA.
Job is contingent on funding in April 2025.
Specific duties include:
- Provide Tier 2 level engineering operations support to quickly identify, triage, and address outages, analyzing symptoms and potential root causes to implement effective resolutions or escalate to Tier 3/Tier 4 support as required.
- Utilize advanced monitoring tools and processes to oversee network infrastructure, monitor the performance and availability of managed services and systems across multiple exchange points, and ensure optimal performance.
- Perform day to day maintenance, fixes, configuration corrections, software and hardware updates, and deployments.
- Adhere to system and operational reporting obligations
- Operate and maintain the privileged access solutions.
- Maintain continuous verification of failover processes and disaster recovery procedures.
- Operate and maintain hardware upgrade process and procedures
- Update and maintain any software builds applicable to deployed equipment.
- Enact change management for the solutions.
- Operate and maintain existing incident management processes.
- Keep firmware, software updates and patches up to date for equipment.
- Support the design, analysis, planning, modification and maintenance of the network and network components supporting data, voice and/or audio communication activities.
- Support analysis of short/long term capacity needs for switching, routing transmission and signaling.
- Conducts testing of network systems.
- Support the evaluation of new network technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.
Qualifications
Required Education and Years of Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and five (5) years relevant experience supporting a large network infrastructure
- 4 years of additional experience can be considered in lieu of degree
Required Security Clearance:
- Active Secret Clearance
Required Skills and Experience:
- Experience required with: Routing Protocols (OSPF, BGP); Access Control Lists; Layer 2 Switching; Spanning Tree; Packet Analysis; SPINE-LEAF architecture; and troubleshooting routing issues
- Strong working knowledge of SD-WAN, Routers, Switches, Firewalls, and Virtual Private Network devices
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP in regard to routing and subnetting
- Capable of supporting TACACS+ on Cisco ISE and ISE Cube
Required Certifications:
- IAT Level II required (Sec +), CCNA/CCNP
Working Environment and Travel:
- Able to work shifts to cover a 24x7 operational environment
- Able to cover on-call schedule on a rotating basis
- Travel up to 25% may be required
Desired:
- Experience with the following is a plus: Arista switches; Palo Alto Firewalls; TAP and network visibility (i.e. Gigamon, NetScout); SD-WAN and Spine-Leaf Architecture; working with VLANs and VRFs; configuring IPSEC tunnels
