JOB DESCRIPTION: 

SAIC is seeking a Scientific Software Engineer to support The Ocean Biology Processing Group at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. The Ocean Biology Processing Group (http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov) at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center is a world leader in satellite-based remote sensing of the ocean. This position will support scientific software development for the retrieval of geophysical data products from current and future satellite radiometers.

Duties include:

· Implementation of processing algorithms in science software

· Evaluation and validation of code performance and adherence to coding standards

· Code testing and verification using static and dynamic analysis tools

· Code maintenance and configuration management control

Qualifications

Education: Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Physical Science (post graduate education will be considered for professional experience).

Required (Basic) Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the development of scientific data processing software using C or C++ in a UNIX/Linux environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • The successful candidate must also be eligible for unescorted access to NASA facilities (US citizen or green card holder). 

Desired skills:

  • Experience with scientific software development for satellite remote sensing and evaluation of geophysical products retrieved from satellite data. 
  • Experience with Python, Fortran, or Git.
