Description

The Division of Infectious Diseases at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School is seeking an infectious disease clinician or clinician-scientist to lead our state-of-the-art multi-disciplinary infectious diseases practice (IDP). Serving approximately 2,500 patients from the Newark community and surrounding counties through over 9,000 visits each year, the practice provides a wide variety of services, including HIV treatment and prevention, management of viral hepatitis, liver transplant infectious diseases care, outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy, sexual health, and travel medicine. Comprehensive HIV treatment and prevention support services are provided through Ryan White and Department of Health Funded programs. The practice also offers gender affirming hormone therapy as well as treatment for substance use and mental health disorders. Clinical research is fully integrated into the ID practice procedures and is supported by our NIH-funded Clinical Trials Unit and numerous research grants.

The IDP Medical Director will lead the clinical, business and quality improvement activities of the Practice, ensuring program excellence through outstanding patient care and sound financial and grant management, while also participating and supporting the academic and research programs of the Infectious Diseases Division. They will be responsible for writing clinical grants that support services within the Practice and liaising with other medical school departments and University Hospital as needed. The Medical Director will also work with the Director of HIV Services to ensure seamless delivery of HIV and STI services. In addition to their responsibilities within the Practice, the Medical Director will also attend on patient Infectious Diseases  consultation services with an Infectious Diseases fellow caring for a diverse patient population.

Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in partnership with University Hospital has the largest Infectious Disease Fellowship program in the State of New Jersey and is the largest provider of HIV care and clinical research in the state. In addition to usual infectious diseases consults, the Division is a major provider of infectious diseases care to Hepatology, liver transplant, orthopedic, and trauma patients. The Division is a leader in clinical and basic research in emerging infectious diseases including HIV, tuberculosis, COVID-19, and select agents, and is a major recipient of federal, foundation, and pharmaceutical grants. 

Candidates with a minimum of 4 years clinical infectious diseases practice experience are encouraged to apply. Mentoring will be available and encouraged.
